How do you manage to get time off of work? I interviewed for a job today and since I'll be in training during July I won't be able to ask off at all. How do you deal with that? I suppose I'll have to take a month off huh?

Well the good news is that the pay is awesome so that will help fund the treatments. I have a second interview on May 23rd.

Hi Georgia,

I am very lucky that my employer is generous when it comes to time off. I've also managed to save some time up over the years, so that's how I get to go on my appts.

It can still be difficult with IF because sometimes you need to go for appts at the last minute, so I found it helpful to confide in my supervisor. Fortunately she is very understanding and supportive, and I can count on her to keep my situation to herself.

I hope that it all works out for you. I'm sorry you have to take a month off, but I'm sure that it will be worth it. Good luck at your second interview!

Hi Peachie - I completely agree with Holly, I had to tell my manager what was going on. People tend to be really sensitive to those types of needs, so I'd just be up front with them. My clinic is only a mile or two away from where I work, but even so, I'd have to jump up and leave at the drop of a hat sometimes. Between the crazy exits and the bruising on my arms from the blood draws, they might have thought I had a problem if I didn't explain. :)

Well for now I'm not going to worry about it. We are hoping that June will maybe be our month. If not then I'll sit back July and start my job... then I'll get a feel for my supervisor and the company and see what my schedule is like.

Hey Peachie, I was in the same situation you are when I interviewed for my job. I was just flat out honest with the person interviewing me. I told them the story, how often I would be gone and I still got the job. Once I was hired she told me that my honesty is what actually got me the job. She figured if I would be up front with something like that when I needed a job because I was laid off then I would be a good honest employee. So I still work there, I still go to my appt. 4 times a month maybe more and they have never once said anything

Hope this help, hope you get the job

I too have had this issue on my mind, and appreciate hearing how its working for some of you lovely ladies. Georgia, I think your strategy sounds a lot like something I would do - go full time with the training, get a feel for the place then start the next month (not ideal, because we get anxious to do the next round of whatever IF treatment, but good because you will be in a better place). Good luck with the interview, I hope you get it!

Fortunately, I've been with my company for many years, so I have plenty of vacation / sick time to draw from, but my biggest problem is having to take so many random days off with such short notice. And unlike Victorria (jealous) my IF clinic is 50 minutes away, arg! so everytime I go, at best I leave work a few hours early or get there a few hours late, or just take the whole day off (if appt is in the middle of the day).

What's more, it sounds like you have female bosses, I don't, which makes it much harder for me and I haven't confided in him about this, nor do I want to. I have somehow managed over the past 2+ years of TTC to minimize suspicion, but think my luck is running out. I may be able to survive the 3 months of injections (hopefully I won't need all 3 months) but the next step would be IVF and that's even more time off.

The other tricky thing for me is that I travel sometimes with my work, so my cycle & work travels dictate which months I can or cannot do IF treatments. Sorry for the really long post, I've just been wondering how to keep this under wraps here at work.

Just Dance- WOW you've gotten really far without getting "caught" I only hope that I don't get caught. The one saving grace is that this position isn't 8-5 Monday-Friday. It is hours between 8-8:30 Monday thru Friday so technically I'll have days that I go in at noon and get off of 8:30 ya know? And the dr is about 20 minutes from work. Still I am a bit nervous about it.
