Janice...Your symptoms sound similar to what my wife had last year at this time. She was in the hospital four times in a two month period before they finally were able to diagnose it as Microscopic Colitis. What the doctor called in for you is the generic of Lomotil for diarrhea. They were giving that to my wife also, as she had diarrhea and was vomiting too. They had to send the sample to the University of Washington Med School Hospital to find out that it was the same as what the local lab said it was. She was in the hospital at the time, and they put her on IV Prednisone and the results were amazing. When she got out of the hospital she was on oral Prednisone for several weeks, then switched to Entocort for another couple months and then weened off. She's been back to work and doing great off all meds since last fall. Check into this, or at least mention it to your doctor. There are several types of Colitis.

Good luck, I hope you're feeling better soon.
