Is a transvaginal ultrasound more accurate than an abdominal one? The tech said they're both good depending on what you're looking for. Do you know which one shows the ovaries better?
Thank-you for any opinions anyone can offer.

How disconcerting, 28 people have read my post and NObody answers? Wow, how sad is that.

pearl,
I do not know the statistics on how often something is not found on an ultrasound but perhaps speaking to your doctor, especially if you are still having symptoms. If you do not feel comfortable with your current doctor you could always go seek a 2nd opinion.
I hope this helps! I know it can be frustrating when you know something is wrong because you do not feel right but they cannot find anything. Just keep asking questions.

I don't know the statistic either but I know my experiance. I had a number of transvaginal ultrasounds a couple of years ago. They were looking to figure out what my softball sized mass was in my abdomen. They never really could decide anything from the ultrasound. They thought that it most likely was a large fibroid but weren't sure. So a year later after it hadn't shrunk or grown anymore they went in to remove it. It ended up being ovarian cancer.
But of course it is more likely to have anyother problem other than cancer traditionally. good luck

Pearl, I am new to this site but I have been reading a great deal regarding Fibroids and it seems that the size of fibroids are not always accurate because they are not symmetrical. I am going to the Gyn tomorrow and I am planning on asking about what can and cannot be seen with an US and TransVagUS. If I get an answer I will post it here. I hope all is well.

pearl, this will be because alot of us are here due to cervical cancer as oppose to ovarian.
you will notice from the threads that the majority of members are actually posting about leeps, cone biopsies, etc (thes ebeing cervix related)
i just read your post, as it doesnt say what kind of test, and we have numberous tests also, and upon reading it thought "what on earth is that". but i will now of gone onto yoru statistics as someone who ghas "read your post and not replied".
please dont assume people arent replying for teh sake of, when someone comes along who has experience in thsi area (as has happened) then they will reply.
good luck with your health anyway :-)

Hi Pearl, I just came back from my gyn. and she said that the tvus will show if a tumor is present but may miss many more. She has seen the report to show 2 tumors and when she gets inside there are as many as thirty. Apparently it only shows size but no texture or density. Huh... not as useful as I thought. My only other experience with ultrasound is being pregnant.
What is the prognosis of your cancer? I will pray for you to have a quick and full recovery.
