hey y'all
ok i'm taking yasmin now for the past well almost year and i do i abdsolutely love it besides the price. i pay almost 50.00 a month for it with insurance. i think it went up too because i used to only pay 40.00...anyways. so i'm about to go to the dr. again to get a new script and i'm thinking about switching because i can't afford to keep paying that much for it every month.
so what kind do y'all think is kinda like yasmin but less expensive? i can't afford to gain any weight and that's why my dr. put me on yasmin but is there anything else out there that would wt. gain would not be a side effect of?
oh and also when i switch pills, how long does it take before it comes affective because im switching brands. will it still protect the same or will i have to use a condom for like a month or two??
thanks

I so glad to hear you have had positive experiences with yaz. I will take my first pill tonight. Hopefully I will have positive results as well. I really don't know what other bc to recommend. I have only been two types...orthro lo and now yaz.

i recommend progestin only pills if you dont want to gain weight, however as all bc pills, it may have some other side effects.
personally, i liked it except for the period twice a month thing. (which i hear is characteristic of this type of pill) but it really is all about how it mixes with your body chemistry.

i'm also switching to yaz and i was skeptical but pretty excited about shorter periods. my doctor said you shouldn't gain weight- people just use that as an excuse. LOL
and when you switch, i would use back-up for the first month. just make sure you start your new pill right after you finish your old and that'll lower your risk substantially.

Yaz has a diuretic in it so the odds are you won't gain weight on that pill. I was on Loestrin FE 24 which also is a 24 day pill. The last couple of months I had NO period. I gained 22 lbs in the first 2 months. Now while I found out that it's from lack of progesterone it happened right when I started taking it.
I haven't read of many people gaining weight on Yaz. I was told to use back up when for the first 7 days when I switched to Ortho Cept 3 days ago. You can call any pharmacy and they should be able to tell you what the time length of back up is when switching to Yaz.

Although I haven't read of many people complaining of weight gain on Yaz or Yasmin, I have read that frequently, increased hair loss as well as crazy mood swings are 2 very frequent complaints with this pill. One girl was saying that she had so many clumps falling out with Yaz that she had to shave her head! That's terrible! So, I guess you have to really monitor your body as much as possible when taking it and if something unusual happens, then make sure you keep an eye on it.
