View Full Version : When do babies "organize" toys?

My question is this. When do babies normally begin organizing and sorting toys?

My daughter is 12 months and 2 weeks old and she just organized her circular toys (plastic coins and round cups) into groups of 3. When she ran out of the coins, she used a cup to substitute. All were a different color, too. Is this normal or should I be surprised?

I am honestly not sure. Never really looked at it as normal or not just went a long with it with each one at different times. LOL I have 4 and two are very very smart and I think the one was about 14 months and the other about 12months. But my oldest didnt till he was about 15months(he actually was too busy standing at 8 months and walking at 9months Ahhhhhhh!!! LOL)

Please make sure those plastic coins are too big to go in mouth...I have had those get stuck in the kids mouths before. Just a little word of caution from a been there done that. ;)

Don't worry! :) They are huge coins that go in that plastic pig toy..the piggy bank with huge coins and the pig counts as she puts them in the slot. It's extremely safe! :)

That is awesome. My dd is about the same age (born 4-12-06) and she isn't doing that yet. We have been working a lot with Sign Language, so she is really into that, but doesn't seem be very interested in sorting or fitting certain shapes into the correct slots or anything. You should be very proud. :)
