Hey all....
I've been doing some thinking about this Gastritis and has gone from mild to chronic in the past 4 months.
4 months ago I was diagnosed with gastritis and H-pylori. I then took antibiotics and the H-pylori has been gone now for 3 months. But - the gastritis has gotten worse....
 Question: Could this gastritis still be from the H-pylori but it is taking a while to heal? I thought it would be getting better.....
Anyone have experience with this? Whatever is causing this gastritis is internal and I'm running out of options:confused:

Hi Jeepy
I've had chronic gastritis now for over 12 years but no H-Pylori. Had numerous testing and I still don't know what is causing it. I have symptoms just about every day; particularly while sleeping - my burning stomach wakes me up.
I tried every PPI on the market as well as alternative medication.
I went to a gastro doctor last week and he prescribed Levbid which is usually prescribed to people with IBS to control stomach spasms.
I've taken it for three days now and I'm slightly better at night meaning I only woke once last night.
Your conditon could be a left over from the H-pylori bacteria so I would give it some time.

nanci- Have you tried any natural remedies to gastritis? I have heard of something called Extra Virgin Pine Nut Oil. Have you heard anything about it? I too am worried that they will not find a cause..which makes me concered not only for my current quality of life but for possible diseases to come with age (i.e. stomach cancer).

According to my doctor, gastritis seldom leads to cancer. More than half the population has it. My girlfriend just had a scope and her biopsy showed "chronic gastritis with intestional metaplasia" And she has absolutely no symptoms.
Gastritis is an irritated stomach lining. Usually symptoms respond to acid reducing medication. In my case, the usual PPI's only made me feel worse.
I have tried the oil, manuka honey, a product named Acid Ease; DGL, por biotiucs, just about everything advsertised on the internet to cure or help with gastritis. Nothing works for me! But that doesn't mean it won't work for you.
Are you having symptoms?

nanci - Yes....I have constant belching (it gets worse as the day persists...really bad in the evening after dinner). I also have nausea every now and then and some pain off and on around the center and right side of the ribcage (doc said that is from stomach inflammation).
I was told to stay on the PPI and Carafate for 3 months and then report back to the doc. He thinks that might help, but if not I wanted to see what other options people have tried.
He said this is caused by Bile Reflux which realy has no cure so I need to find something for the gastritis:rolleyes:
Thanks for chatting with me about this:wave:

I have finally been diagnosed also with mild gastritis. Pepto bismol tablet helps me when it is bad. Doctor wants me to take protonex. It gave me a headache. Is there any harm in trying to treat it with minimal things like Pepto?
Harry, Where do you get the mastica and what is it?

I buy Mastica from the local Vitamin Shoppe but several year ago I bought it online at a good discount.

I tried it Harry; didn't work. Like I posted, I tried everything that you suggested in other posts.
But again, doesn't mean it won't work for others who try it.

I've had chronic gastritis (off 'n on) for 40 years. It has worsened over the last 4 months, so this is what I'm doing to keep "off" of the PPI's that made me worse. First is my diet.......bland, bland, bland. Mostly only alkaline foods; no caffeine; sugar, spices, complex anything. I drink lemon water, chamomile tea, Licorice rt tea (or DGL).
STRESS: I avoid this like the plague; from toxic people to any type of overstimulating situations.
Heath food items: Acidolphilus, Calms Forte, Rescue Remedy, Boiron Acidil, BHI Stomach.
If I don't do the above I will wake up feeling nauseaus, but it quickly clears once I take my Acidil. Last night tried a new nut burger; too intense, so up came the nauseau this morning.
Am hoping I'll go into remission as I have in the past, but sure takes alot of discipline.

Hi Carol, thanks for posting
I have been taking Iberogast and Slippery Elm and I'll tell you, this is the first time in over ten years that I seem to be getting consistent relief. I've been taking two SE capsules three times a day and 20 drops of Iberogast in a little water 2-3 times a day. My primary complaint is waking up several times a night with severe burning.
I went out to dinner last night and had one small glass of wine. I woke a few times and finally got up and took some Mallox. I do agree that PPI's make the condition worse - at least for me it did. Mallox is a temporary fix but at least got me thru the night so I could get some sleep.
I don't get nauseaus at all; just the burning. I'll try some of the alternatives you posted. Thanks.

Nanci............what is iberogast? I'm not taking alot of S.E. as I'm always leary of reactions. My biggest downfall is that I'll have a drink w/dinner, but I put alkazone drops in it to alkalinize it. Now I'm wondering if it's the drops that are making it more irritating.
Since I'm on my 6th morning of feeling nauseaus, I'm cutting out everything for a few days, and hoping my symptom will disappear as it has so many times in the past.
I'm also going to get a serotonin neurofeedback session to slow things down, as I've started taking multiple vitamins via I.V., which helps with my energy & nutritional needs, but speeds me up.
What a balancing act this is!!

Hi Again
Iberogast is a german supplement that got very high marks. You can find it on line if you put it into your browser. No many places carry it.
I have the same issue, I use to have a glass of wine every night with dinner but found that it just make my burning stomach worse. If I'm out socially as I was last night, I ordered a glass but paid the price. I just have the burning stomach that goes from slight to severe; from middle of the night to 24/7. I seem to go in spurts. But I seldom have a day or night that I don't experience burning. Like I stated, I seldom get nauseaus or have any other pain. I've had many scopes and came up negative for Hpylori and GERD. And I have taken and tried every single prescribed medicine on the market.
Slippery Elm is harmless so there are no side effects. I research everything I take and SE is used for digestive issues. Whether it's the SE or the Ibergast or a combination of them both, I don't know but if I behave myself and eat a bland dinner and not drink or have ice cream, I am much better.
I am at a normal weight and basically lead a heatlhy life - I don't smoke, never have and only drank socially. No drug use at all and I work out a few times a week - I tend to cut back in the summer because I like to be outdoors. I try to do things right and get pretty frustrated that this is chronic. I do agree that stress can do you in. My doctor told me I have an anxious personaltiy but have tried OTC stress reducing remedies that don't seem to do much. Presently, I'm taking Seredyn but I don't think it helps.

I tend to have the best results with either herbs or homeopathics. Yesterday I took Rescue Remedy, chamomile tea, Acidil & BHI Stomach, SE throughout the day, and my stomach cleared.
But this morning I had a slight "off" feeling, but the above is what I'll continue til I'm clear again.
P.S. one of my horses has ulcers; he way nervous and I give him S.E., Marshmallow, Licorice, Chamomile flowers & Valerian. Supposed to take 6 months to clear that. And we give our rescue nervous toy dog digestive enzymes & rescue remedy to help with his gastritis! It's all in the fam..........

I've been having the same symptoms for months, also...burning & nausea, and have had a treatment for H-pylori...while taking the antibiotics pack, I felt fine..but now, my symptoms are back and getting worse. A scope revealed very little...I'm interested in anything that might help...this is putting such a wrench in my life...its getting harder to function on the job and I'm depressed about this whole thing...which is only making it worse...a vicious cycle, I suppose. Please advise. Thanks so much. BTW..I'm only 21 years old.

eric,
Sorry about the return of the symtoms and the worse feeling.
After you took the therapy/ antibiotics for H Pylori did you continue to recieve a PPI like Prevacid or Prolosec for awhile?
In most cases it is usually needed for several months then a breath test is a reliable way to see if the H.Pylori was eradicated.
I usually get gastritis that is inflammation of the stomach lining after a course of antibiotics but an endoscopic exam shows up gastritis-- maybe your Doctor missed it during your scope test?
At your age your Doctor may not take you serious-- I hope this is not the case!!
