carisa 05-07-2007, 09:28 PM I asked this on the miscarriage board as well, but I thought I would also ask you ladies who have had a D&C.
I'm really scared to have one and I'm worried I'm going to bleed for weeks after. What has been your experience. I guess I just don't know what to expect. It looks like I will be getting one this Friday. I will find out tomorrow for sure what day.

KJinKy 05-07-2007, 09:54 PM Carisa, I'm really sorry you have to go through this life can be so cruel sometimes.
I had a D&C several years ago not for the same reason but to remove a polyp from my uterus and it really wasn't that bad. Are they putting you to sleep? They put me to sleep and when I woke up I went home in about 4 hours. I really wasn't that sore but had to take it easy for a couple weeks, no lifting and stuff like that. The best I can remember I only bled about a week but not heavy just kind of spotty after first day.
I hope this helps and again I'm so sorry.

Kari15 05-08-2007, 01:33 AM Oh Carisa, I hate to even have to talk about it. But I have had two D&C's. First was after an exporatory surgery 18months ago and the second after my ectopic last summer. I was put under both times so I felt no pain. I also don't have much trouble getting put under so I guess maybe I'm lucky there cause I hear some people do. I didn't really have much bleeding after either procedure... maybe a bit for just two days but nothing worse than a kinda heavy period. Also Didn't really have any cramping with either. I know each situation is different... obviously nothing ever implanted in my uterus where they perform the procedure. I know it will not be easy even if goes as easy as mine did. Emotionally it's just a sad time. I will be praying for you and waiting to support you as soon as you are able to try again. Take care of yourself. Know that your angel will never be forgotten.
Hi Carisa,
I am just getting on the boards and saw your post - I am so sorry you are going through this. I know it must be a very hard time for you right now.
i had a D&C done last summer while i was having my lap done. so i was put under and didn't feel anything. Afterwards I only bled for maybe 2 days at most. nothing worse than a regular AF day. i was nervous beforehand too wondering what exactly would happen to me afterwards - the instructions my RE gave me said i could bleed for up to 3 weeks and i remember going to the drug store and stocking up on supplies waiting for the gushing. but it never happened. so i am hoping it is the same for you. i don't want you to have to go through any more than you have to.
I hope this helps and I am praying for you.
deluka96 05-08-2007, 09:48 AM Hi Carisa,
I had a D&C at 9 week pregnancy that did not grow past 6-7 weeks. Basically the worst part is the emotional part. As for the physical you are put completely out so you won't recall anything during the procedure itself. When you wake a nurse will be there and ask if you are in pain. I was in a some pain but not that bad and I think the gave me morphine if I recall correctly. You have to stay for 30 minutes to and hour after the procedure then they will release you. I actually went out to lunch with DH and my parents after the procedure b/c I just really did not want to go home but I started feeling very weak so it may be a better idea to stay home. I was given pain pills to take home so I really did not have any pain except some weakness and some slight pain in my inner thighs but all I had to do is rest and I felt better. I had no cramping and no bleeding until my period 29 days later. Some people do bleed but I did not. About two days later I was physically totally back to normal. I had it on a Friday too. In fact I went to work on Monday and was fine. I dod think in retospect I needed a few more days at home emotionally but everyone is different. The reality hit me hard the day of the D&C....... just know we are all here for you to lend support. I so wish I could be there and hold you hand through it. I really hope you have no pain and a quick recovery so you can start a new cycle. Praying for you Carisa!! I am so very sorry you have to go through all of this. Many, many ((((HUGS)))))

TryN2BMommy 05-08-2007, 10:10 AM Hi Carisa,
My D&C was several years ago when I had to have my tubal pg removed. I don't remember how long I bled, but I know that it was not too long - definitely less than a week. The pain was a little worse than the other ladies are describing, but nothing you can't handle. I stayed home from work for about 3, 4 days. By a week, I was physically okay. It's the emotions that are always the hardest. I am so very sorry you have to go through this. You and your angel baby will remain in my prayers. HUGS to you.

Bonitagirl 05-08-2007, 10:42 AM I've had a D&C a few times. Its usally not that bad. Its emotional. I guess the worst part of it for me was waiting for them to actually put me out and get started. You wake up with some cramps and they should give you something in your IV to take away the pain. A lot of times I would be back to work within a few days and hardly any bleeding. i'm so sorry you have to go though this, no one should. I hope you feel better soon hun.
carisa 05-08-2007, 12:15 PM Well, it's not sounding too scary. I've just heard too many stories that weren't too fun. I'm hoping mine isn't too bad since my little one was only six weeks. I'm deciding today where I'm getting it done and when. The sooner the better. Hopefully by the end of this week I will have had it so I can start healing emotionally and physically. Thanks for your input.

deluka96 05-08-2007, 01:33 PM Anytime Carisa.... I hope you can have it done sooner than later as well as the more time goes by it's harder to deal with. I am sure they will work it out for you.
((HUGS))

carisa 05-08-2007, 05:01 PM Well, thanks for all the input.
I have it scheduled for this Thursday at 10am. I am still very nervous. I'm just ready to get it over with. Just hoping I'm not in a lot of pain.

deluka96 05-08-2007, 05:12 PM Hi Carisa,
Well this part is almost over. I really don't recall having a lot of pain. I was kind og out of it when I woke up from the procedure and was in pain but not that much b/c I was just waking up. So I am sure it will be fine. I'll be thinking about you!!

eurokelly 05-09-2007, 05:11 AM Carisa, I will be thinking about you tomorrow ~ isn't this all just so tough? You will physically be fine very quickly, just make sure you get the support you need emotionally, from your DH, family, friends and of course here. You need to be patient with yourself if you are anything like me. Some people who don't understand do expect you to be 'over it' before you might be ready....but tough on them, take all the time you need and know that you are not alone and we do understand what you are going through.
Lots of love
