Hey Stephaine I am on it 2 times a day.It is to help thicken ur lining to support a potential pregnancy. My RE gives it to me as precaution not that my lining is thin cause its not.Are u on it?Also I take it vaginally.

Yes I am on it but never knew what it was for. I am taking 200mg 3 times a day also vaginally. Are you having any side affects? I am very tired and week, and feel very depressed and emotional these last few days I was wondering if it could have something to do with this medicine

i took Prometrium pills after my IUI's, 1 pill by mouth twice a day for 10 days or in my case until AF showed and i knew it was over. Like Mapia said it is to help thicken lining and support a potential pg.

I am not sure if the pills could be causing these side effects.I dont know if it has effected me or not but with all these meds we are taking its no wonder we feel depressed.I am an emotional wreck these past 2 days.I have been depressed for awhile now.

Wow 3 times a day thats a lot.Do u take it orally? Was ur lining thin?

Other than the tiredness, and emotions I am going through I am fine. I test on 5/14, it can not come fast enough...

I called RE and since it is so late in the day they are going to call me tomorrow. Thanks for your response

Hi Silly.

I just wanted to add something - i don't think it is excessive to take Prometrium 3 times a day and i'll tell you why. when i took prometrium 2 times a day i also took PIO shots with it. so it was 2 kinds of progesterone therapy at the same time. now for my IVF i am going to do PIO shots and use Crinone gel vaginally 2 times a day. I have read many times that oral and vaginal progesterone are inferior to PIO shots when it comes to effectiveness and absorption so maybe you have to take it three times a day just to get a decent amount absorbed? i have always had a lining above 10 at IUI time and even without lining problems i used 2 forms of progesterone to help.

Thanks CBB for your reply. The reason why I was asking is because I have been very tired and weak feeling and very depressed and emotional, and I thought that it might be because of this medicine and the fact that I am taking so much. I am still going to ask RE if how I am feeling is normal just in case.

Hey Silly.

I don't blame you for asking the doctor. that's what they are there for. i sometimes think that all these hormones really mess up our emotional state as well as our physical states. i have been lucky to not have many emotional side effects besides the usual mood ups and downs but physically my skin breaks out, i gain a lot of weight, i look puffy and bloated, etc. so it effects most of us in some way or another. maybe the doc can adjust your dose. we want you to feel as good as possible while going through this. and being tired and depressed is no fun at all. I hope it gets better for you soon.

Silly,

It can be used for two separate things. Since you are in the middle of your cycle, I'm going to assume that it is being used to support a potential pregnancy. Low progesterone has been found to be a reason for early miscarriage so some doctors do it as a preventative. Sometimes you can stop after a few weeks into the pregnancy but sometimes you have to take it the whole first trimester (until the placenta takes over making progesterone).

I've taken it to start my period before too. Also, when I was on Clomid, I took promentrium for the potential pregnancy and then after it was found out that my HCG levels showed no pregnancy when I discontinued it my period started right up... so I could go onto the next cycle quicker.

Good luck! (((HUGS)))

I forgot who mentioned it but one of the side effects of progesterone therapy is feeling depressed, crying easily, feeling more emotional. My DH calls it the rollercoaster pills for this very reason.

I'm suppose to start in in a few days 2 x a day for 10 day to get AF regulated and then I start clomid next cycle
