I have had a horrible vaginal & anal itch for the past two years. I have gone to my family doc several times and no creams or med's help. Sometimes I have these lumps come and go, just recently I noticed that I have a cluster of lumps just inside my vagina. There are quite a few and they seem to go all the way up as far as I can feel. I am not sure what they are but I called my OBGyn and reported the findings and I go in next week to have them looked at. I feel bad as I don't want to bother him unecessarily when it is probably nothing.

Now as for my pap smears. I went for a pap two years ago right when the itch was the worst and it came back abnormal. I waited the 'six month's for the repeat and got the same findings. After three bad pap's I was sent to
to the OBGyn specialist who did a colposcopy. He never really told me the results of the colposcopy just that 'it wasn't too bad' and 'come back for a repeat pap in 6 months'. He said I would have to go with at least 4 repeat pap's being normal before they will go back to yearly exams. I just had my last pap in April and I have not heard the results only that the nurse informed me that it wasn't anything different.

The rational part of me thinks I am overeacting and I should cancel my doc's appt as these lumps in my vagina are probably perfectly normal, but another part of me has this sick feeling that something just isn't right. I have been told sooo many times that it is normal for a female to itch, even though I would scratch myself so much that I would bleed, There are nights I cannot sleep from the intense itch and nothing sooths it. Has anybody else had a similar experience? Has anybody had these types of lumps inside their vagina? The only other symptom I have is having to urinate very frequently, I am always tired and very moody (but then again I am the mother of four children and work 50 hours a week), but something is telling me this all isn't just a normal 'female itch'.

Thanks for any help you can offer!!

No, don't search it on the net. You'll go crazy and you'll think you have them all. It's unneccessary stress when this might be as simple as a yeast infection or BV..It can come from HPV in which case you might want to test for that as well.

Ask your doctor, if he doesnt give you satisfactory replies, or doesn't follow through accordingly with appropriate test (lab culture) change your gyn and find one that LISTENS to you.

If he said the colpo wasn't so bad that probably means that you might have some minor changes.. I am surprised that he didn't mention HPV to you. As far as immediate relief from itching goes, you can try topical yogurt or take acidipholius tablets..try also pau d'arco tea..great natural remedy

Thanks for the help and advice. I called them today to find out what exactly my colp results said and to find out exactly what my pap said. Of course they wouldn't tell me. I then tried to get them to give me a copy of it. They wouldn't do that either. So I thought I would see if my fam doc would give me a copy of it. They had all the results but wouldn't releast them to me unless I had a specialist appt so I told them I had an appt, which they found out I didn't, and still wouldn't give it to me. They must think I am an idiot now, but bottom line I only wanted to know straight up what it said.

Can anyone tell me if it is normal to have these bumps in the vagina? They are not on the outside but inside my vagina. I understand it is normal to have rough skin and for it to feel like the roof of your mouth but these are actual cluster of lumps. If I feel for them they are at the front and go as far up as I can feel. Maybe this is normal. I certainly don't want to go to the doc again to find out that I have had these all along and I just didn't feel them before. Plus now I feel like an idiot!

Thanks again for your help

Honey, You need to find a new doc. This one sounds like a quack.. You need to schedule an appt with a new OB/GYN ASAP.....something just doesn't sound right....i come from a family of nurses and read alot about things like this myself....get a new doc and get help now....it may be nothing, but you need to find out before things get worse if it is something....hope all turns out fine....Good Luck...

I don't know the answers to your specific health questions, but I do know that you have a right to your results whenever you ask, and that any doctor that keeps them from you needs to be confronted. Now, they may ask that you request them in writing, and they may need a signature (one of my doctors required I fax in a request with my signature) but they cannot refuse to release the results. That's insane.

I hope you get them soon, and that all this is just a hiccup. But I would consider going to another doctor in the future. You have a right to expect a supportive doctor.

Good luck!

Two things: you are entitled of getting your results. You can request a dsimissal form that you sign and fax it back to your doctor's office and they will have to release your information. No lies involved, straight up release form, you get your info and tell them that you will find another doctor at your own time and desire. That's none of their bussines. Just tell them that you'd like to be released from their care.

second: my gyn has told me that it's normal for females to have such clumps in the vagina: they can be enhanced by rough or unlubrificated sex...I don't know if you had them before and just noticed them because of the itching and you didnt have a reason before to actually be so detailed, or they formed recently. That being said, and provided that you are clear of major STD's, the itching might come from a minor yeast infection or BV..does it itch right before your menses? That's what happened to me when I had the yeast infection..thanks god I'm relieved of that with the help of acidipholius tablets, teas and vitamins..flagyl for some reason didn't work for me.

good luck

Not only does the enire office sound unethical, it is illegal for them to refuse you any test results. They're yours. They belong to you. You can even walk into any hospital medical records office and sign a form, and they have to release any medical info they have on file on you, and that's a hospital. It's the law and this doctor of yours knows it. Some doctors will try to 'get around' this whole release of information thing by saying they have to send results to another doctor. Hogwash. Granted a doctor can do this FOR you if you already have an appt. with someone else just for convenience sake for you so you don't have to bother, but you also have the right to walk into their office, sign a release form, and legally they have to hand you over a copy of any test results right then and there. The only thing you are required to do to acquire test results from anyone is to sign a release form, which all doctors and hospitals have just for this reason.

Does anybody know the law for canada and the release of medical files to the patient? I contacted my doctors office told them that I wanted my file released and what I had to do to get that done. I was told in no uncertain terms that it is NOT possible, that they basically own my file and it can only be released to other physicians when requested and not to the patient themselves. I have looked on the internet for the Canadian laws pertaining to this and cannot find anything.

What province are you in? I'm in BC. I requested a complete copy of my file from the gynecologist. It cost me $25 (they are allowed to charge) but I got the complete file. Check your province's College of Physicians and Surgeons online page if you can. Whenever I have any tests done I request a copy of my results. If you are having issues with getting your reports, I would put in a complaint to the College. You do have every right to your complete file, you might have to pay for it though. Let me know if you need more info. I'm tight on time right now so can't really respond in more detail.

Thanks for your reply. I live in Ontario and I called the doc's office again today and they refuse to give me anything. They claim it is their right to have my file and not mine. I am going to check out the website after work and see what I can find.

brookiebear. the site is easy to find. Check out the policies section with a subsection for medical records and a subsequent subsection for confidentiality. You DO have a right to your records and you do have the option of filing a complaint. Good for you for being an advocate for yourself! Let me know if you need more info. Good luck.

In Ontario it is the same. Any and all of your medical records are available to you upon request. Your doctor cannot refuse to give you your records and you can be assured he/she knows that! If a doctor is refusing to give you a copy, report them to the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons. Please visit their website and give them a call. They will tell you the same and tell you what to do if the doctor is refusing.
Also I strongly suggest you get a new doctor ASAP (not a referral from your current one). GB
