Hello ladies I was wondering if any of you had any insight on this topic.
My DD will be 4 mo on 05/17/07, when she was about 3wks she had cradle cap, and it went away in about a 1 1/2 weeks. Well now at almost 4 mos, she has it again. I was just wonder if this was normal.

Your info. is greatly appreciated.:)
Thanks

It's very normal. If it's mild you might just want to gently comb the scalp with a CLEAN comb. Do not scratch at it with your finger nails of anything else. You could break open the skin and set her up for an infection. Just washing with a mild baby shampoo helps 1-2 times a week. If you wash her hair more or to vigorously it will dry out her scalp and make it worse.
If it it is a more severe case you might want to get a prescription from your dr.
This is something that just looks worse than it is.
Good luck.

We used Selsun Blue at her ped's suggestion and a gentle scrub brush and used it a couple of times a week and that did the trick.

I also used a soft toothbrush and dandruff shampoo like Selson Blue or Head and Shoulders. Because my son has extremely dry skin like me, I stayed away from ANYTHING "baby" because they are so drying to his skin. Just b/c they say moisturizing, doesn't necessarily mean that's the case. The only baby product I use is Aquaphor's baby wash. We also greased up his head with Aquaphor lotion or Eucerin. Not very attractive, but it helped!

My son also got it around 3 months, and I hate to say we just ignored it. He's now 5.5 months old and it disappeared maybe a couple of weeks ago? I just said look, it isn't dangerous, there are no uncomfortable side effects for the baby -- why should I start with lotions and possibly uncomfortable rubbings? So his scalp is yellow! So what?

That was my approach, blessed by our doctor when I mentioned it to him.

If all your son has is the yellow flakes, I too would say leave it be. Unfortunately my son's head would bleed from all of his scratching. I needed to keep it moisturizing in order to stop him from scratching it open.

Believe it or not, but this is the one time you should use baby oil. It helps to soften the skin, and rid the flakes. It is the ONLY reason I used baby oil for my DD. Went away quick and never came back. You don't need much, but it does help. Good luck!

Dett is right, i was going to suggest that or mineral oil..I had baby oil in the house all the time so i used that. every morning before bath or anytime before bath time I put some baby oil(bout a tsp) on head and took a soft comb or a fine baby brush and just gently stroked the head. I didnt over do it either with the brushing. I would wash the head with Dove(i used dove only as the baby shampoos are too harsh) and washed their hair with that. It can go on and off for up to two years. But you should keep up with the oil it really does help release the flakes and softens the cap to get rid of it. On days I didnt wash baby I still used the oil and brush and just rinsed the head. They all looked oily but it was better than the itch from the cradle cap.

My 1st and 4th were the ones who had it the worst. With the entire head being a complete cap of it. The oil helped and within about 2 weeks was much better. It is very normal and not painful at all.
