The doctor told me that I had HPV about a year and 2 months ago. Only when she told me I was scheduled to leaving the very next day. (literally) So I have been putting it off and now its a year later. I still havent had any surgery of any kind. I've been trying to do healthy things and etc. to try and stay healthy. The only reason I havent gotten the surgery yet is because I just got back and got a new job and my benefits do not begin until after 3 months. BUT if anyone can tell me if its a cheap surgery or how much it is or what i can do please let me know. Thanks guys.

Well, it depends. What surgery were you supposed to have? What form did your HPV take? That is, did you have warts (in which case you don't necessarily have to have them removed--as I understand it they do not present a health threat) or did you have cervical dysplasia? If so, then that is more important to have seen to, because it can become cancer.

I would first find a good gyn to do another pap test. If it's been a year since the last one, then things may have changed. If the pap comes back abnormal, then go from there to a colposcopy, and then perhaps to a LEEP or something. I implore you not to wait longer to have the repeat pap. Really!

If your insurance hasn't kicked in than find a free clinic to do it. But get it done! If you have cervical dysplasia it can turn into cancer. If it is caught early it is about 100% curable! That's great for us, but makes it all the more important to get the pap and figure out where you stand.

Good luck!

:) Thanks for the reply. When i went it was my normal physician, and she just suggested that I go to an OBGYN. She only said that I had some abnormal cells but I assumed thats what this was. (HPV) She also said that sometimes it can go away on its own, and of course I've been hoping that. But now im seeing all the hpv commercials and getting kind of scared. I've been trying to have children also, do you think this could be the reason that it hasnt happened for me yet? thanks

Honestly, I think the only way to tell for sure what's going on (and the possible implications for getting pregnant) is to find a good ob/gyn and get the pap test again. You may also need a colposcopy, but only a gyn could tell you for sure.

Good luck!
