What do you ladies think about walking during the 2ww? With all of the medicine I have been taking and the stress I have gained like 40 pounds and want to get it back off but not if it is going to hurt my chances of getting pregnant. What do you guys think, OK or not OK?

Hey Stephanie... I have always been one to work out quite a bit. I stopped for almost a year thinking that my workouts were somehow causing my IF, but of course it had nothing to do with it. Talked to the RE just a few weeks ago and they told me walking or swimming only during the 2WW and nothing more. I have taken a 40minute walk every day except once during this 2WW and I feel great. I take with me 4lb hand weights and do bicep curls the entire time just so I feel like I'm doing a little extra something. Now, for the IVFers out there, I imagine RE's even discourage the walking and swimming even if you had the energy to try! But I know you are still doing the IUI's so it should be fine.

Hi Stephanie, even with IVF, light walking is okay. So with IUI, you should be fine. I know what you mean about putting on the weight. I am desperately trying not to gain anymore - at least not until I can buy maternity clothes. ;)

Thanks Holly and Kari, DH and I have been walking 2 miles every night and I was worried that it might affect my chances. I just have to get this extra weight off it is driving me nuts.

Hi Stephanie! My RE or NP had never said anything about activity during the 2ww, so I had always continued with my normal routine, which included walking, strength training, aerobics and tumbling. Last cycle I asked the NP about it, and she said to stick with walking and strength training. So much for the past 4 cycles, huh? I know what you mean about the extra pounds, I too am working on dropping about 30. And by the way, I also live in Kansas!

My RE always said only do walking or swimming, nothing with impact, no bike riding, no weight lifting (over 5 pounds). i did follow those rules but it hasn't gotten me any success yet:confused:

Oh my gosh! That is way too wild! :D Yes, my RE is Dr. Stewart at Shawnee Mission. DH and I have seen him for consultations, but Jennifer has done 4 of our IUI'S, and Dr. McNichols did one on a weekend. They are great, aren't they! I still can't believe it!

Stephanie,
I agree with kat light physical excercise can only be good for you, personally i would'nt do anything more strenuous than a walk or a swim however i am
a lazy sod!!!
Hope all is going well in your 2ww-how long till beta?

Kat, that is crazy. Dr Stewart has only done one of mine, Dr McNichols did one and Jennifer has done the other 6. I really love them there, they are great. Jennifer is my favorite, she is so sweet and nice and I really truly feel that she wants this to work as much I DH and I do. The last time she called to tell me BFN I could tell that she was almost crying also.
Well now everytime I am in the waiting room I am going to wonder if you are there to. That is just so crazy, small world

I was told by our RE that I couldnt do any walking until we had our beta test and then after that he told me not too until 12 weeks pregnant. I hated it because I too gained alot with the meds and still am. I will be 9 weeks tomorrow.

I also wanted to mention, with my last IVF cycle after stopping the meds I lost all the weight I gained within 2 weeks. It was like it just disappeared.

Girls, Just wanted to chime in. I had an appointment with my regular OB doctor on Friday and he said light exercise is fine. My RE said not to do anything other than light walking. That was driving me crazy.
My OB said that the RE's tend to be ultra conservative, but studies indicate that there is not an increased chance of miscarriage through normal activities and exercise. I used to jog before this and my OB said it is actually good for the baby. I've decided that after my u/s tomorrow, if everything is ok, I'm going to start jogging again.
