Has anyone ever had one or is currently dealing with a bv infection that will just NOT go away AT ALL? As in one constant infection that is resistant to all antibiotics? I know this is only my second treatment (I tried Clindesse first and now I'm on Flagyl but I know its not working) but my intuition is telling me that this thing isn't going anywhere. I need some responses and encouragement. I lost hope a long time ago when I was first diagnosed. I knew what a monster this could be as far as RECURRENT infections were concernced. But I never knew that I wouldn't be able to kill it at all. :'(
Also, I've read here in the yeast thread that they can do cultures of the yeast that are sent off to a lab where the type and what it is sensitive to is specified. Can they do the same for BV?

I read alot of these threads and there's not too much mention of whether your partner's been treated or if you are even having sex. I had BV 12 years ago- the Doctor said my partner should be treated- so I had him get soem flagyl too. Then i got a screaming yeast infection- month after month after month- I begged Dr's to treat my partner and every one of them said men don't need to be treated for a YI. So then finally a Dr said ok- prescribed him something and after about 9 months of hell I was back to normal...until now but that's a whole other story...

No, we are not having sex. We've tried having sex once in the last two months and it lasted about 3 minutes because it burned too much. :( So, I have a raging case of bv and I don't know why. I wish it was just sex. Then I'd just tell him to wear a condom until he could get treated

could you possibly have a yeast infection now from the flagyl? I thought (don't quote me because everyone's different) but I thought that BV doesn't cause a burning during sex- but a YI does.

No. I just started taking the flagyl a week ago. Today is my last day. I tried having sex 2 months ago about 5 days after I finished a round of Clindesse. It burned too much, I thought it might have been yeast, went to the doctor and it was bv. Apparently, I'm the only person in the world who experiences burning with BV...I feel at least a little bit of burn at all times. So, I'm always aware that its there.

Candida albicans is a fungal organism that is present in every-one's intestinal tract. It is normally kept under control by the immune system and by beneficial intestinal bacteria. When these bacteria are destroyed, usually by antibiotics, or when our when our immune function is off, typically due to stress or illness, or when we develop environmental or food sensitivities, the Candida begins to proliferate and invade and colonize our body tissues. It most commonly makes it's self know as a vaginal yeast infection or as oral thrush. Candida albicans can also spread inside the body and become a systemic problem.
When that happens it changes from its simple, relatively harmless form to an invasive form, with long root-like structures that penetrate the intestinal lining. Penetration can break down the boundary between the intestinal tract and the circulatory system. This means it can enter into the bloodstream and cause us to be sensitive to allergens, poisons, or irritants. Partially digested proteins may enter the blood through the openings created by Candida. That's know as the leaky gut syndrome. That makes sense why individuals with Candida also often display a variety of food and environmental allergies.
It can cause problems such as yeast vaginitis, menstrual and premenstrual problems, bladder inflammation, chronic urinary tract infections, bladder inflammation, cystitis, PMS. Alot of times you may get the symptoms of the above BEFORE you have signs of a yeast infection.

Ebon,
you're not the only person that experiences burning from BV. A lot of people do. I have a "burning" right now- I don't know if it's from Yeast, the Terazol 7 cream or BV- I don't have any symptoms of BV- no odor- no discharge and I took one of those PH tests 4 times, so I can't figure out why this YI won't go away- but I have read tons of threads of girls who say bv "burns". reading these threads is making things worse for me and I have to stop because all it's doing is making me think I have something else.!

Well, I finished my 7 day course of Flagyl and I feel that it HELPED but didn't eradicate it. I will be able to know for sure on Friday which is so far away. I have a colposcopy on Friday and will ask him to check then. Does anyone here know if a bv infection can cause complications for a colpo??? I'm kind of worried about that.

don't waste your time with home remedies. If they worked why would we go to the doctor for these things? I'd see another doctor for a second opinion. Tell the new doctor what you've been through. Also rememeber after the vagina is out of whack with an infection, even after its healed it can take weeks to get back to normal feeling.
good luck.

You need to try one treatment at a time. After each treatment, go to your doctor and get checked and have a culture to make sure that you are clean. It will take some time for the BV to disappear. I was taking Cleocin for 2 weeks straight and then, I started incorporating yogurt and acidophilus w/ bifidus. Since then, I've been clean since November 2006.
The only battle I have now is with the rare yeast infection. No OTC drugs has effect on it. Diflucan doesn't work. My infection has grown resistant to all the treatments. I've tried terazol and the boric acid. Currently, I'm being treated with gentian violet. I go to my doctor for 12 days and have them administer the purple dye in my vagina. So, I'm hoping this will work. I was also told to do a douche of vinegar with water and salt, only to be sprayed on the outside and not inside like a "regular" douche and rub some cornstarch.

Cleocin is scary. It wipes out all good bacteria along with the bad. That will be my last choice. I think it was antibiotics that set me on my bv course in the first place. I've been trying to replenish my flora for a long time now and it doesn't seem to be working. Second, do you think that maybe it was all the antibiotics that helped to give you this rare yeast infection? Did you have it while you had the bv or did it develop after you got the bv cleared with the Cleocin? Its my theory that you don't have the bv anymore because the yeast has taken up residence. Have you tried long term treatments with Nystatin or have you tried Nizoral. I read another thread on this board where a woman was cured from a rare strain with Nizoral?
Here's an update for me. The Flagyl helped a great deal but I know it did not work. I finished it on Sunday and was able to have pleasurable sex with my bf last night. But I know it is not gone. I'm still "burny" and I still have the discharge and a mild smell. And yes, he used a condom. I know I still have it, I'll have it confirmed on Friday when my doc does my colpo.

hey nasty1ne,
just wondering if you have C glabrata or some other non albican. I've read alot about them online and it seems like it takes some pretty powerful drugs to knock them out. Have you considered taking one of those? Also- let me ask you- when you use diflucan, or OTC's- do they help at all or do absolutely nothing? I am trying to figure out if I have a resistant strain or just messed myself up with the monistat 1 day ovule- ugh what a nightmare the last month has been- just curious-please let me know how your "YI" responds to OTC's and Diflucan. Do your symptoms subside at all? Thanks
also- Ebon, do the condoms you use contain nonoxynol 9? Spermicide can cause YIs and BV. it's like a lose/lose situation! have sex with condom- get irritated- have sex without condom- get irritated. I have no idea what my problem is. I don't know if it's from the douche I did a month ago (I never douche- decided to like an idiot- emptied the douche and used plain tap water because I heard douching was bad for you and I thought well, water can't hurt, right???) or now I'm beginning to think it's a coincidence and I have Vag cancer or something!!! I have been with this guy for 6 months and no irritation or problems in the sex department before this. I feel like I ruined my life by douching or something!

To Ebon and Jupe,
Yes, since I've taken so many antibiotics to wipe out the BV, it may have caused the rare yeast infection. I may have had the yeast infection while I had the BV. Everytime, my gyn looked under the wet mount, he would only detect the BV. The last visit I had, everything looked fine. No more BV. Yippee!! But when he did the culture . . .that's when he found out that I had the rare yeast infection. No OTC and azole drugs can get rid of it. They've all become noneffective. My bug is resistant.
As for the particular strain I have, my obgyn didn't get that info. So, my choices were: Nystatin, gentian violet or taking diflucan tablets daily for 2 weeks or more. I decided to try something different this time. I chose the gentian violet. I have 2 more days of treatment. It's not really messy. I wear a thin mini pad everyday for the 12 days of treatment that I'm going thru. The last visit I had with my doctor, which was Tuesday, he said that from what he can see, there is not a lot of discharge. So, hopefully, it is getting most of the infection. If there is still remnants of the infection, we might have to go another week or 2 or I can try Nystatin. I'll keep you ladies posted.
Oh, a Nurse Practitioner told me to do the vinegar and water w/ 1 to 2 tsp of salt and spray it on the outside to control the yeast infection and relieve some of the symptoms. So, that may be something I might try once I've completed this gentian voilet treatment.
Also to populate the good bacteria or return my flora to normal, the NP and my obgyn have suggested, and I have been taking, Culturelle which has 10 billion organisms and the acidophilus w/ bifidus (which has 1.5 billion organisms) as well as doing the vinegar & water douche/spray. They've also suggested eating yogurt----- I think that's what helped w/ the BV.
For all the women that have been replying to the healthboards.com, I find it a relief as well as resource guide. I thought I was the only one having problems or I'm one of those rare cases, but it's comforting to know there are others experiencing these problems. I don't feel so alone. And the input I read from here, I do research and I have tried most of the treatments. At least I was able to get rid of the BV. Imagine 7 months BV- free.
As for the rare YI, I'll keep you updated with the results.

Hi girls. This is my story. Seven years ago I was under a horrible amount of stress and while i was dating this guy i got what was then diagnosed as a case of bv. i was given meds, and then my vagina started to smell funny. doctor decided it was Trichomonasis so i got more meds. My vagina changed even more after that, and the doctor said i had bv(i never did get the results of all these cultures) so i took more meds for that, Nystatin, i believe. My vagina started smelling like barbecue sauce, it was a nightmare!!! So then it was yeast, the doctors were telling me. Anyway, a pregnancy later as well as cryogenic treatment for pre-cancerous cells on my cervix, along with countless doses of Diflucan, and I still have this horrible yeast infection. (Thats what a specialist confirmed that it was) Terazol was what had always worked in the past, and only that, but Terazol now caused an allergic reaction inside me, or maybe that was just the yeast gettting stronger, i don't know, cause i was getting even more itchy.
Anyway to make a long story short, i started drinking massive amounts of water recently (massive compared to what i was drinking before that is) and my yeast symptoms actually dissappeared for two weeks!!!! But today, just as i am about to get my period, i have developed another horrible YI. I thought i was so close, and to lose at this point is absolutely crushing!! You see, i met someone recently, and now am even more desperate to get rid of this thing! its so humiliating and embarassing, i have kept it a secret, but this thing has got to go!!! I am so desperate i am thinking of trying Three-Lac even though the whole treatment will cost lots of money.
Anyway, its wonderful to know i am not alone in this, but at the same time i feel so much for you girls who are experiencing the same thing! Tell me, what effect does this have on your romantic relationships?

Miria, my bf and I have noticed that I've developed an odor ever since I started treating the bv. But the last time I went in to see the doc there was no yeast, just bv....You have me worried now. :( I'm so scared that all of this bv treatment is going to give me one of those resistant strains of yeast! What if I already have one and just don't know it because I haven't had a culture yet? :'( I'm going to get one when I see my doc tomorrow.
Nasty1ne, do you feel that the gentian violet is working?
And, Miria, when you were diagnosed with the bv did he actually do some type of test or did he just diagnose you visually?

Ok Ebon,
Stop worrying- it makes it worse. listen I know it's easier said then done- I've been worrying and crying and not eating over this but I've gotten to the point where I've searched so much web I thought I had everything from BV to vulvodynia or whatever. Truth is everyone is different. I will give you some input- if you haven't already- get your man to the Dr. Dr's are so in denial about men having these infections- I lived through it- I know first hand for a fact 12 years ago I got BV- I had my boyfriend treated with flagyl. Then I got a really really really bad YI- worst ever- and I gave it to him (mind you- we had sex the night before I got it- so it's not like I had a full blown YI when we had sex-) and dr's all said no way- and for 9 months I got one every month- maybe even every 2 weeks- I can't remember now. It would go away with treatment- sometimes I'd have to double up (I'd do a 3 day twice in a row) I seem to remember the only thing that worked was Gyne-lotrimin- I don't know why- and I swore then I was developing an immunity to YI meds. In any case after about 9 months my BF said he was a little "itchy" I RUSHED him to his family dr who gave him some pills- and the problem went away. I don't know the original cause of the BV- at the time I thought it was from the condoms- but I just don't know- could have been from him (It's hard to remember but I think I noticed the BV after we stopped using condoms- I was on the pill) semen has a high PH- if your BF ejaculates in you- this may be why the BV is recurring. If you use condoms- maybe try switching to some other brand. I've used the lamb ones - they're a little weird but if you have a latex allergy- they're better. I have no idea what my problem is now because I haven't had sex since this began. I have read about the monistat 1 day ovule causing permanent "burning" which is like what I have. I have a strange discharge- on top of a white crusty discharge that I don't know if it's remnants of terazol 7 cream or beginnings of more yeast. I have a dr's appointment monday. On to the strange discharge- it's clear, it's odorless and it's got the consistancy of Jelly- or hair gel- but pliable- like stretchy- and no- it's not like when I ovulate. The body is a natural healer though- so I have to believe that I will eventually heal- once I know what's wrong- I have read everyone's horror stories and the more I read- the worse I feel- this is not a case of misery loves company- this is a case of I want to hear everyone has a happy ending and is cured. I think you and I both need to stop reading all the horror stories- before this is all over we're going to start thinking we have every disease imaginable and have been abducted by aliens! We also have no way of knowing how many of the horror stories don't go into "real" detail. I mean- we don't know if some of these women have several partners, have not finished the meds etc. (don't get upset ladies- I'm just saying if there's 1000 horror stories out there- maybe only 50 are legitimate...) the constant surfing the web and thinking Oh my god- that's me- is making it worse. If I go on monday and she says I have some crazy non albican yeast I am telling her to give me the most powerful meds she has. I do not want to be on boric acid! that scares the crap out of me. I want to take a pill that will kill my yeast-even if it kills my liver! good luck

I want to take a pill that will kill my yeast-even if it kills my liver! good luck

The bv persists even if I don't have sex. We've only had sex twice in the last 2 and a half months. And when we were having sex he never ejaculated inside of me and he's weird in the sense that he has no pre-ejaculate either. Its not sex.

Well ladies,
The gentian violet is working, somewhat. The YI symptoms I had: discharge and the burning feeling in my lower abdominal area around my bladder are not as bad. The last visit I had with my doctor- he said that I don't have a lot of discharge, so I take that as a good sign. I'm hoping that it will take care of most of the infection. The Nurse Practioner that I saw today (my regular doc was on vacation, so she had to insert or color my vagina walls purple) was telling me that, eventually the YI will go away. She was saying that hopefully this treatment will eradicate the YI. Then, for the next 6 weeks, I will have to be patient and monitor myself. Afterwards, I can come in for a follow-up. She said that I must allow my body to replenish itself after taking this treatment and hopefully have the good bacteria repopulate in my vagina. In a sense, let my body kick in with its immunity system. I need to let my body take a break from all the meds that I've been taking. Another possiblity she was saying that I have the pressure or burning feeling in my bladder area is interstital cystitis. I'm praying that it's not that!!!!
Anyways, there were several factors that made the YI recurring. First, last year, when I had sex with my ex, I would get a yeast infection. I was taking Diflucan and Terazol. Also, it would recur when I finished my period. My ex and I were having sex and it would just go back and forth between us. So, I was exacerbating the problem. I would go to my doctors and he'd check the wet mount and everything would be BV. He didn't do any cultures last year up until December 2006, which was when we found out that I had the rare YI.
All the while I had been taking Cleocin to take care of the BV (eventually was eradicated) and then I would have a yeast infection. I was treated with Diflucan and later with Terazol. But then, I noticed that I was still having discharge and the burning feeling around my bladder. So, we finally did the culture. He notified me that it was a nonalbicans candida. I was crushed.
So, I got rid of the boyfriend, incorporated yogurt in my diet, started eating healthy, exercising, followed all the preventative measures.
Oh, the NP told me that if this YI is gone, hopefully with this treatment, she told me to do the vinegar and water spray and also take Femstat on a daily maintenance of the yeast.
:)

so tonight my BF tells me he thinks he has UTI. He has a burning sensation and the urge to go alot. We haven't had sex in over a month (when my YI started) - I'm sure it's not a UTI- I'm sure it's a YI- I told him he's got to get treated or we will not ever do it again! It can't be a coincidence. What does a man take for a YI? Diflucan? OMG- this is a nightmare. What worries me is that whole Dr in denial thing. He's going to go to the doc and the doc is going to say "nah- can't be a YI- here- have some bactrim" and I'll be in this boat next month....lovely.

There was one thing I was wondering...What if I end up getting a culture and I find out that I too have a rare form of yeast that's been causing all of this burning I've been feeling? What if my bf is a carrier? I wouldn't want to break up with him for it. :( Would there be anyway to treat him? Would it be easier to treat a male with this kind of infection since their genitals aren't moist and warm to the extent that ours are? I mean, I know they get awfully sweaty. lol. But you know what I mean. What would one do in such a situation?

you'd make sure you have a good dr that would be willing to prescribe your BF something. I've been reading alot about the resistant strains. There are pills you can take to rid yourself of the infection. I imagine men could take them too. But when you read about some of the side effects these meds can cause- you may want to just keep the YI! Which is why they try alternatives first. I'm sure you'll be fine- don't worry too much- you can make it worse by worrying. Does your BF have any symptoms at all? By now I'm sure he would- like I said my BF went symptom free for 9 months but eventually he started to feel "itchy" and the doc's will say "Men with YI's will have bumps on their penis head" that is total BS! my BF did not have any bumps when he had one. Did you go back to the doc on friday? Other then constant burning do you have any other BV symptoms? Like fishy odor or any discharge?

I have a very scant discharge and burning. I also have a mild odor but its not fishy. Its just, "not right" as my bf would say. lol. And I agree. I'm actually pretty dry down there too. I know this dryness is not normal for me because I used to be a very juicy gal at all times. I think this bv is actually drying me out because when I was on the Flagyl I noticed that I was beginning to get wetter. Most women have copious amounts of discharge with bv. But I'm so far from a textbook case...My symptoms are so unlike bv that almost no one believes that I have it. Everyone keeps telling me its yeast, but I don't test positive for yeast (I know I still need a culture to test for the other strains but I need to find a doc that will do one first). I keep testing positive for bv.

ok- I was just wondering because I have no odor- no discharge but a constant burning feeling. To put it bluntly my crotch is on fire at times- and other times- it's not. I did have a weird discharge for like 3 days after i finished the terazol. It was clear-it was like hair gel- but it was stretchy and there was not a lot of it. A little every time I wiped but nothing in my undies. I have no idea what's going on down there but I'll find out tomorrow morning. I can only assume it's BV or an allergic reaction to all the yeast creams. UGH!! if it is BV then the meds for that will give me a yeast infection!!! here we go again....

Ask them if they can do a wet prep AND an Affirm test. My bv has NEVER shown up on wet prep. The only thing that ever shows up on wet prep is an elevated pH. So its necessary that I have the Affirm done to be diagnosed. Your discharge sounds like mine at times. I know exactly what you're talking about. I consider myself lucky when I have a discharge like that though! lol. My usual secretions before all my gyno problems used to be kind of thick. Now, if I ever have any discharge at all, its thin and watery. You might have bv. Because your burning sounds almost identical to mine. Except lately I've been feeling it all the time. I have to take a pain reliever to be able to forget about it.

well. I went to the DR and the good news is I don't have BV. the bad news is I don't have BV!!! It is YEAST! still! I have done a 1 day a 3 day a 7 day and 3 diflucan! Yeast should be afraid of me!!!! The doctor sent myine out to test for C Glabrata or C tropicalis- if it comes back either of those she said they prescribe ketoconazole. I asked her to give it to me now but she wouldn't because if I don't have one of those strains she didn't want me taking something harsh like that. So she gave me 2 more diflucan (which I wasn't going to bother taking) and said take 1 today and 1 in 5 days- until the results come back next Monday. ANOTHER WEEK!!! in the mean time she suggested switching to Dove soap and the scent "free" detergent. (I currently have every pair of underwear I own in the washer right now- getting "free" ) I took the diflucan and I swear it makes me burn worse down there. She was very surprised that I wasn't itching. I said great- thanks- that will be tomorrow morning then. I bought some homeopathic suppositoriesd because they have "borax" in them but they also have candida albicans in them. Is that a joke? give yourself yeast to get rid of the yeast? what??? Anyway- nasty1ne if you're still following- did you have the same experience when taking diflucan? the itching stops but the burning doesn't? Have you tried ketoconazole? I've done a web search and it seems like ketoconazole was surpassed by diflucan. Vericonazole on the other hand seemed to be the yeast killer. I'm debating on asking for that. The side effects however are really bad. oh and while she agreed that douching is a stupid bad thing- she said the way I did it (using plain water) was the "best" way of any. So I sit here and wonder- had I not douched- would I be going through this or is it some horrible coincidence. How on earth did this happen??

Well, jupe, there wasn't a test done on my culture to find the specific strain of yeast. I wished there was one done. Anyways, I took the boric acid and there would be some discharge. I suspect from the boric suppositories. I didn't have any itching feeling. I still had the burning or discomfort in the abdominal area around my bladder. So, naturally I would go to the bathroom and urinate and I would be fine. Probably about 45 minutes to an hour, I'd feel that same pressure again and then go to the bathroom and urinate. When I was done with the boric acid, I got a culture done to see if I had the yeast. It was still there.
My next course of treatments were the gentian violet, 2 weeks of taking Diflucan and 100,000 units (cream) of Nystatin. I chose gentian violet. I was opposed to Diflucan because in the long term you can develop liver problems, but of course, they will monitor you. And with Nystatin . . . I just wanted to take a break from inserting a cream in my vagina.
Well, I'm almost done with my treatment. Tomorrow will be the last day Kaiser colors my vagina purple. I was told by the Nurse Practitioner to take a 6 week break and monitor my symptoms. She was saying that I need my body to rest, take a break from meds, and let my immune system kick-in. She was saying that I possibly could have ICS. I'm praying to God that I don't have interstitial cystitis. That would require additional treatments. So, I'll keep you ladies posted on my condition.
Other than that, I feel fine. I don't feel that pressure(burning feeling) in my bladder area. I hope this gentian violet will kill the yeast. During my 6 week break, I was encouraged to continue taking the probiotic tablets, Culturelle.:)

So, I went to my doctor on the 18th to be checked for any infection and for the colpo. They do a wet prep, right? And my doctor says its inconclusive. Then they do the affirm which shows only bv. Well, I called the nurse for a prescription of diflucan as a preventative since I'm going to be on this Flagyl for 14 days. She calls me back with a message saying, "I don't know why you wanted the diflucan because we didn't find any yeast....oh, yes we did. We saw it on the wet prep..." So I called back all confused and I asked her about it and told her that the doc said it was inconclusive. Now she's telling me that the wet prep showed a "tiny bit of yeast" but it didn't show up on the affirm. What the HELL!? Bv that shows up on the affirm but not the wet prep? Yeast that shows up on the wet prep but not the affirm? I'm extremely upset right now. I thought I was only going to have to battle bv but it looks like I'm going to have to battle both because I was on diflucan when I was diagnosed with this "yeast." I was taking it while on the 7 day course of Flagyl as a preventative. I'd like to use a yeast cream along with the diflucan but I can't since I'm all cut up in there. :'( I'm sorry, but I'm more than a little upset right now.
Isn't it true that if it were a resistant strain of yeast it wouldn't have shown up on the wet prep at all? As I understand it, the people who read the wet preps only know how to recognize Candida Albicans. But it does make me worry that it didn't show up on a test as sensitive as the Affirm.
I just found this:
"Wet mount results are typically negative in the presence of non-Candida VVC." I'd post the site here but, as we all know, this board won't let you.
But then I just found this:
"False-positive results are also observed with variable frequency.44The pH of the discharge is usually not more than 5.0 with Candida albicans, but may be higher with non-albicans species such as C glabrata."
The doctor told me that my pH was high! God, I'm scared now.

Hello Ebon, sorry it took so long to answer your question, but i only checked in today. I think the different meds that were given to me caused funny reaction in me which resulted in the weird smells, and no my doctor didn't bother taking cultures, it was visual. I have trouble getting doctors to be more thorough than that! My opinion is you should take a break and focus on your eating, sleeping, and stress habits. All those meds, BELIEVE ME, will screw you up big time!! Right now i feel fine cause i just finished my period, and its always peaceful at that time. And just so everyone knows i did not have sex for 4 and 1/2 years so sex was not the problem with my yeast infection. Honestly, i just think you should take some time off and relax from the treatments. Perhaps giving your body time to ajust and come into balance again would be a good thing. I really think those meds can be bad for you cause they play around with your internal balance. What i'm trying to do now is continue to drink lots of water cause it actually helped me big time a couple of weeks ago, and lower my anxiety, because i am prone to that. I also watch my sugar intake (but within reasonable limits) Anyway i will see how that goes...I noticed the times my yi backed off were when i was in a very positive mood over a certain period of time,so i think anxiety can definitely contribute to imbalances down there.

nasty1ne I can't believe your doc didn't send out a culture to see what strain you have. That's terrible- you may have been able to beat this awhile ago- with some pretty powerful drugs- but hey at this point- if they prescribed me something that could cause death as a side effect I'd still take it! I'm so sick of this yeast BS. Oh and I just realized monday is a holiday so I guess it will be tuesday before I know my results. Ebon- listen I have read about other women who (like me)- years ago had recurring YIs (remember- 9 months- my boyfriend was giving it to me) and they used monistat or gyne-lotrimin repeatedly (as I did) and now have C. Glabrata. When I was using that junk every month- at age 20- I kept thinking - man- I'm going to become immune to it- seems I was right- (well, we're not sure yet but we'll know TUESDAY now...) anyway the thing I'm saying is be careful taking diflucan after diflucan or monistat after monistat because it seems like (and I'm no expert or DR) that is how you end up with glabrata or a resistant strain. Just from what other women are saying- it makes me think that 12 years ago- if some dr had treated my boyfriend immediately like I asked- I wouldn't be here now- because I wouldn't have endured 9 months of monistat!!!

I agree with you jupe. If I had known NOW all these things back then, I think I would been able to eradicate this rare YI. All these years I had been taking Micanozole (Monistat) and Diflucan- just popping them in or using them according to doctor's orders . . .then I don't think I would have developed this rare YI. When you abuse, your bug just changes and becomes resistant. And you're right . . .I should've gotten my bf at the time checked and treated so we wouldn't have bee passing it back and forth to one another. Just recently before I broke it off, I found out that he hadn't been having a thorough check with his doctor. He got checked for everything except BV and YI. UGH!!!! Well, I'm glad that relationship is over. Now I can concentrate on trying to get myself better.

You know, a couple of months ago I actually treated my bv with Terazol because I thought I had yeast....Literally RIGHT AFTER-the DAY after i finished the treatment-I got drunk and had sex. The next day I ended up with the worst yeast infection I've ever had. I couldn't believe it....the Terazol actually gave me a yeast infection....At this point there is no doubt in my mind that I'm probably dealing with a resistant strain now....Thanks for all of your VISUAL diagnoses, Doctor Connor! You *****************! And now this Flagyl is only going to make it worse. My mother is picking up MORE diflucan for me to take. How am I supposed to fight a yeast infection when I'm on 14 days of antibiotics anyway? Shouldn't I wait till after I'm done with the treatment? What do I do? :'( I can even feel this yeast in my crack! That's right. And its sore. I hate being a woman!

I wanted to see if the diflucan helped. Ebon,
Does the diflucan help you? If it does then you probably don't have a resistant strain-(yet!!!) but you have to tell your doc to do a culture and send it out to the lab- you too nasty1ne- My doc is not the greatest- but thank god she knew about Glabrata and Tropicalis and told ME she was sending it out to be tested. I was so afraid she was going to be another doc in denial and say "what? what resistant strain" because I swear NOBODY believes me- my family says "that's crazy- never heard of such a thing" I keep telling them- surf the web- they say "you can't believe everything on the web" they want me to get a second opinion... HELLO! my doctor is sending out a culture! She's not a quack! the only thing that scares me is she said if it is Glabrata she will prescribe me ketoconazole- which I have surfed and surfed and I can find nothing that says ketoconazole treats glabrata- everything says "Diflucan has surpassed ketoconazole" well- if diflucan doesn't work- and that is apparently better then ketocon, then what the heck???? I am going to ask her for vericonazole if it comes back glabrata. or I may resort to trying the boric acid inserts. Here is the weirdest of the weird- took diflucan (I don't know why) on monday and - I went from having no discharge to having yeast- alot of it- but (dare i say this) my symptoms have gotten no worse. the yeast has increased but the symptoms haven't- that has me stumped. nasty1ne you finished the genetian violet right? how do you feel? I swear right now - if this ever clears up I am never complaining about trivial stuff again. I used to say "oh I want a nose job" or "I hate my hair" yah- well now I have something to complain about and I don't want it!!!!!

I went to see my doctor today and to my dismay he said that my cervix looked fine and that the discharge was normal?? I'm sorry, but no discharge 6 days after a colpo is normal. Plus I'm still in pain. HOWEVER...he is MUCH better than my primary doc. As I thought, because he is younger he has actually heard of the resistant strains of yeast and other bacterias that can live in the vagina. I didn't have to bring them up at all! I complained that I was having trouble with yeast too and he just started talking about them. And when I asked him if he could do a culture for any yeast or bacteria we might be missing he said that he couldn't do one due to the lack of supplies he had in his office but that he did feel that I needed one and that he would look into finding someone that could do one for me. He did have the supplies to check for group B strep so he took a culture for that. While he said some things that were inaccurate (such as my pH of 5.0 is too low and should be around 7 ) I can still say that I've found my new doc from now on. At least for a good while.
Another unfortunately, he said that if I keep having the recurring bv he wants to put me on the metrogel regimen I've heard people talk about. I think he said metrogel for 7 days instead of five, then once a week for a month, then once a month indefinitely. He says he's had good results with that but from what I've read most women don't seem to have much luck with it.
For my current yeast problem he gave me Gynazole. I'm worried about that since its the one dose type that stays in you for 7 days. What if there really is an infection in there? He says it shouldn't irritate my biopsies but I'm afraid it will.

Wow- well I have an update too- and this is all so strange- and Ebon, if he said you look "normal" then I'm really stumped because... I was burning pretty bad today so I called my doc to tell her diflucan wasn't working and I wanted her to call me in something for those resistant strains of yeast and..... my test results were in...all negative- not just negative for Glabrata and Tropicalis- negative for yeast period. No yeast. I said WHAT? the Doctor specifically said she saw yeast!! what the heck was she looking at? This morning- the white clumpy discharge that was on the toilet paper.... that wasn't yeast? I must say- I'm relieved and upset-. I'm glad I'm yeast negative- but then what is going on there? I think it's all the medication I have put in there and in me in the last month- I think that monistat 1 day ovule is the worst thing out there- Ebon be careful with those 1 day treatments- I think that monistat ovule is what started this all. I have no doubt in my mind that this started out as a yeast infection but I have no idea what it's become. I have tested negative for everything and I've heard that herpes mimics yeast infections (I don't know how that's possible but that's what I've heard) but I highly doubt I have herpes. I know anything's possible but I'm going to say the herpes is very unlikely. I have read about women who used the monistat ovule like I did and they are still experiencing burning months later. I'm wondering if this is your problem too ebon- if the doc says you look normal- maybe it's all the meds- the yeast creams. etc. I also swear I did not have any discharge until after I took the diflucan on monday. I can not believe I just took a diflucan for no reason. what kind of a doctor sees yeast that isn't yeast? could the labs be wrong? I am going for a 2nd opinion. unfortunately I can't be seen until 6/13. I'm going to give you all a little advice though- don't do what I did and surf the web and find all these horrible things out there and get in your head that's what you have. I had myself convinced I had glabrata to the point I was looking up the best treatment for it. I almost bought a teraconazole 1 day cream today!!!! and I don't even have yeast. it's crazy what your head can do. anyway Ebon- just be careful- I would hate for you to actually develope a resistance to the meds. Could you possible be having an allergic reaction? I'm wondering if that's my problem now. Too many meds and my vagina is like what are you doing to me? I don't know guys- I will certainly stay on and report back after my 2nd opinion. one more thing ebon- you should really get your discharge sent out to a lab for cultures. your doctor should be able to do that- send them out- if not you have to get yourself to a doc who can and will. and you can't be on any creams for at least 72 hours if you want the results to be accurate. hopefully if you decide on the gynazole it will work for you- still get the tests done.

I didn't know that the monistat-1 was stuff that stayed inside of you for 7 days. I just thought it was some ultra powerful one day treatment that was supposed to get rid of the infection. I've used the Gynazole once before and it helped alot with my symptoms but the burning didn't go away completely. It was after I used the Gynazole that I was diagnosed with the bv. Although I'm sure I've had the bv for much longer. I'm pretty sure that the yeast infection I had when I last used the Gynazole was a bv/yeast co-infection. Because I've had one yeast infection that I was aware before that last one and I only itched. This last one burned like hell! I've heard that a lot women with bv experience mainly burning when they have yeast along with it. But I sometimes think the Gynazole made my bv worse. I don't know what to do anymore. I know I can't use terazol. And the diflucan doesn't work for me. What else is left?

Ladies,
Stop these treatments! I am convinced that using these creams and Diflucan are what caused me to have problems in the first place. These treatments do not KILL the yeast completely, they just cause it to mutate and become stronger and more resistant. Yeast thrive on sugar. Cutting back on sugar and alcohol will help you. Stress causes high blood sugar. Reducing stress will also help immensely. Also, yeast can not grow in an acidic environment. The beneficial bacteria that are usually present in our vaginal tracts are acid-producing. Thier presence keeps yeast to a minimum. These beneficial bacteria are destroyed by antibiotic use, stress, and yeast infection treatments. You can replace the bacteria by supplementing with probiotics(the refrigerated high-quality variety, or yogurt). You can also recreate the acidic environment that should be present in your vagina by using boric acid suppositories. I know they seem scary, but trust me, I was having issues for 8 months and I am feeling so much better. I usually do one, once a week. I have been doing well for months now. Soon, I think I will stop the boric acid suppositories and see how it goes on my own. There is light at the end of the tunnel ladies, and I hope all of us get better.

Duse, I agree- I am so mad that I took a diflucan on monday and I don't even have yeast-And Duse you are right about the stress- I was so stressed about this I was making myself worse. I read so much junk on the internet about all these crazy things and I started to have symptoms! The mind is a powerful thing- it can mess you up! When the doc said "I see yeast" I almost fainted- I did so many YI treatments yeast should be miles from me... And by her telling me that she saw yeast only stressed me out more and made my symptoms worse. Yesterday when I got my results and they said no yeast- I swear it was like a rebirth-but At first my stress levels went thru the roof- I was so confused! The dr sees yeast- but it's not yeast- I was crying my eyes out sitting on the phone with the receptionist asking her "What is wrong with me???" then after I calmed down- and thought- hey- this is good news- it's not glabrata- it's not tropicalis- it's not something that is going to require strong medication. And I swear once I calmed down- my symptoms subsided. Don't get me wrong- I still have burning but I swear it's not as bad- I think I was making it worse with the stress. I was CONSUMED with my vagina so much that for the last month I could think of nothing else. I'm sure my work suffered. (I can't wait to see all the mistakes that will be coming back to haunt me soon...) Ebon you have got to get your cultures sent out to a lab for testing! What if you don't have yeast? What if you are allergic to the creams and it's making your symptoms worse? I know it's ridiculous but have you changed soaps and detergents to the unscented? Also I have always bleached my towels and wash rags but since this started I began bleaching all my underwear (Yes they're all ruined now- faded greens, blues and pinks, etc...) well I stopped bleaching my undies because that could have been the problem too- bleach around my crotch all day? I also started taking all kinds of supplements when this started- probifidus (refrigerated only) AZO yeast, flax oil and cinnammon, (I have an herb book that says cinnammon is good for getting rid of yeast that is resistant to diflucan) - I've decided to stop taking it all for a week- yes I know all of this stuff is good for you- but maybe I am taking too much- overkill- I had my sugar tested- it was 130- it's a little high- other then that it brings me back to the ovule- and all of the creams- and the diflucan- and the stress- and the mind. Ebon- I urge you to have cultures done. My dr doesn't have a lab at her office either but she sent them out for testing- I don't understand why the doc you saw yesterday can't do that. You need to have someone do that! I would even go to the ER if I had to. Ebon - what area of the country do you live in? if there's any chance you're near me I can recommend a dr for you. (Northeast)

Jupe, great news you dont have yeast. Maybe you had it in the beginning of all of this, but it is gone now. It sounds like the creams you used irritated you inside enough to leave you with the burning. I think eventually it will go away and you will go back to normal. I can totally relate to you. I was obsessed with my vagina as well. Literally I would think of it the first thing when I woke up in the morning and it was not off my mind even for a minute throughout the day. I was pretty stupid and when I got that first YI I did a one day treatment, a 7 day treatment, and 2 diflucan!! I thought I was ensuring that the yeast would not come back, but really I just messed myself up and was left with a burning vagina for 8 months. I am still not totally normal, but I am getting there and it helps that I dont stress about it as much. Cutting back on the sugar and carbs helps alot too, plus I have lost some weight, which is always a plus.. Good luck to you. keep us informed.

Duse, have you been cultured for yeast? You know for sure that's what you've been dealing with for the past 8 months? Jupe. I know that I have yeast because it wasn't done by visual diagnosis. They saw it in my discharge through wet prep. Its just a matter of finding out what type it is if I can't get rid of it. They Gynazole is a one day treatment that treats all types of Candida. Not just the albicans variety. As my doctor said, "It is the king of yeast medications." Although I think my yeast was just caused by the flagyl because while the Diflucan has not cured my symptoms it seems to have helped. My doctor even told me that Diflucan doesn't always get the job done. That it only clears about 60-70% of yeast infections. And 80-95% of yeast is caused by Candida Albicans. So, Diflucan really isn't that good of a drug in the first place. I'm going to try not to worry too much about this yeast thing. Its always at the back of my mind. But I'm going to do my best to keep it there. I've already been extremely depressed and stressed the past couple of days. I spent a good portion of yesterday sobbing, and I noticed that the more I sobbed the more twinges I felt "down there." Stress is a major factor in this.

OMG - when I read the posts from you guys I feel so lucky that my issue seems so minor and insignificant. The fact is I've only had this BV twice now and the second time I've managed to clear it up with three doses of the Rephresh followed by inserting two Acidophyllous capsules at night for three nights. I'm back to normal now. I do however feel your pain because when I was in my 20's I suffered from constant discomfort and odor which was not BV but my doctor told me was yeast. I had signs of yeast but every treatment I took only worked for a short time and then bam it was back. My partner at the time was VERY promiscuous (I found out later) and I was constantly on something or another for the whole time we were together - 8 years in all. Once we broke up I switched doctors - went to a female doc who could relate to the way I was feeling - she tested me for chlamydia and it came out positive. I was treated with some strong antibiotic (can't remember the name) and I've never had another one since then - until the BV recently - which if you saw another post that I made in another thread - came at the time my partner was unfaithful with someone who apparently had it too. My point is that we are so vulnerable to these things and our partners habits are so important to our health. They don't realize. I'm not saying that your partners are being unfaithful but they may be reinfecting you over and over and that may explain why these things keep recurring. Just a thought.

there are a lot of docs out there who think men don't get these things- they may not have symptoms- but they give it to us and we do! Ebon- my dr also visually diagnosed my discharge as yeast and it came back negative. I don't know what it is- but it's not yeast. Duse- it sounds like exactly what I did! a 1 day a 3 day and 3 diflucan! and now a 4th because my dr "saw yeast". My doctor called me this morning to apologize for the yeast thing and she said to me that she is very against the 1 day treatments- she said they do more harm then good AND she also told me to try something. Since I've been tested for every possible vaginal ailment and all have come back negative- next step is to test for allergic reaction to something- she said tonight before I go to bed- take a benadryl- if the symptoms clear up- I know I'm having an allergic reaction to something! pretty neat huh?

Yeah, I used it. And I'm pretty sure my body rejected it. I had a copious amount of discharge that was just like water coming out. It was as if my vagina was self-irrigating. This didn't happen the first time I used it. So, I'm pretty sure the yeast infection is still there. I still have 4 days of Flagyl left plus I just started my period 2 days ago so I can't see the doctor about it...If I can't take the gynazol I don't know how I'm going to get rid of this yeast infection...I'm thinking that it just irritated where I had my cervical biopsies done and once they heal I won't have that reaction again.

Hi All
I'm new here, obviously. My problems started back in Mid-March when I got what I thought was a YI and treated it as such. Of course, it never went away and just got worse. :blob_fire I had never even heard of BV before and never even thought to ask about it. So, I went on for about 3 weeks treating it as a YI with no luck. Then, I started to research this and found out a lot about BV and the treatments. So, I called my DR and he prescribed me Cleosin (sp?) and that didn't work. So, I called back and my dr then gave me MetroGel. This works like a charm - as long as I'm on it long term. Of course, being on MetroGel long time gives me a YI - so it's a constant cycle. I'm on my period right now - and as soon as I'm done I'll plan on taking another dose of MetroGel. My Dr. called me in 6 refills of the stuff and said to use it on a 5 Night treatment and then stop. If I even suspect that it's coming back, use the MetroGel again for 1 night and try to erradicate it that way...
Of course as I read all these posts I get a little discouraged because I see how long you've all dealt with this and it scares me. I'm moving to Massachusetts in August and I won't have health insurance. I'm really hoping this goes away before then... I dont' know what to do!!!
I will say that coming here has already been a big help and now I know I'm not alone. I hope these posts continue as I want to hear if any of you are able to be cured!
Thanks
Courtney

Hey girls, this is all very interesting, and i find myself agreeing 100% with the idea that these meds are screwing us down there like crazy! Interesting note: Diflucan always seems to help if i only take one dose, although it only helps for a couple of days. However if i use more i get disastrous results and my crotch is a complete mess after. Also, just to compare notes, my crotch has never burned in all this time i've had a yeast infection. Maybe the burning sensations some of you are experiencing really are a result of the aftershocks of medications. Also, I would like to mention that yes, i have done the boric acid treatment, and it is really not as bad as i've heard mentioned. it offered relief the first days, but unfortunately, the effect would wear off fairly quickly, and i would become non-responsive with the subsequent suppositories. Very strange eh??? I could swear the yeast develops a resistance fairly quickly to whatever i throw at it, and once it does it comes back with a VENGEANCE! Nastier than ever, as if its gotten mad! To Sharon, i never got feedback from the cultures done over the years, but a specialist saw me once and confirmed it was yeast. Nowadays i am too scared to try any kind of meds for that, and so i am trying to kick it the natural way, of course i've got to start getting more sleep and lowering my stress! Anyway, i think its really good we're comparing notes because i see a lot of similarities happening here between us, mainly the overmedicating phenomena (which i am convinced is a fact) and the link between our obsessive psyches making our symptoms worse! Like i've said before, i think a break from all these meds is the best solution until the vagina falls back into its natural state, and then you can see what's really going on.

Ebon, just a remark. I've had biopsies done on my cervix also for pre-cancerous cells caused by that virus HPV, i think. My YI started around the same time that virus manifested itself on my cervix. I wonder if there could be a link? It started with my boyfriend at the time saying i tasted slightly funny, although i had no yeast symptoms at the time, but i went to my gyno anyways who visually diagnosed my with YI. I'm wondering if that was the beginning of the end, taking Terazol when i actually didn't need it. Cause i had no YI symptoms when my bf mentioned that to me, so maybe it was actually pre-cancerous cells causing me to taste different??? Something for me to wonder about i guess. Jeez....

There was a woman in a bv support group that I go to that used oral metronidazole and rephresh and it cured her. I just finished my 14 days of Flagyl but I still have a burning. I'm pretty sure I have some weird yeast going on in there. I did get the results back on my culture and they found E. Coli in there too. So, now I'm on 5 days of Ciprofloxacin. I've been on antibiotics nonstop, it seems, for the past 4 or so months. My vagina seems to "catch" every type of bacterial infection...this is unreal.

Really?? I wonder if there really is a connection, because for me it all started at that point. Right now I have a raging YI, its absolutely horrible, and I am planning on seeing my doctor about it . But this time i refuse to take anything until i've had tests done to determine exactly what it is I have and what strain. I have a boyfriend now and i'm trying really hard to hide this problem (because i am afraid he will be disgusted with me), and i want to get treated once and for all!! (i think it was you, but there are so many posts i can get mixed up)Does it help you? I'm wondering about the Azo, i've never tried it before, but i don't want to waste my time either. the last treatment for YI i took was 3 Diflucan over a week along with a 7 day treatment of lactic acid suppositories- that was a disaster, my yeast was even worse afterwards!! Does that make any sense?? Thats why no meds until tests are taken from now on.

Nope. No improvements. I think the e. coli was taken care of, but even after 14 days of flagyl the gardnerella was unaffected. And I'm still getting yeast infections so bad it takes 4 advil to help the pain. It gets so bad I can feel it in my feet. I took my gynazole last night and that helped immensely. These yeast infections are just so weird though. No itch, no clumpy discharge. Just terrible burning. Its HELL.

I also used REPHESH vaginal inserts. That helped alot too. Good luck, anything else can help ya with lemme know!!!:blob_fire

Hello everyone.
I thought I would give an update about my status with BV. Today is my last day with the flagyl and so far so good. I've been taking the oral flagyl 3x per day for 7 days and using RePhresh at the same time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is over for good. Only time will tell but I wanted to give an update. Using the RePhresh has helped to keep the YI away so I will continue to use it indefinetly. I just hope the BV is erradicated and never returns. Keep your fingers crossed.
I've got my fingers crossed for all of you suffering with those crazy YI and BV strains. I'm starting to realize that being a woman sucks... when it comes to this.
Oh, I also forgot to mention... Another reason I think I may be cured is because I was able to have sex for the first time this past Saturday and I didn't have any pain or odor during or after. I know they say when you have sex with BV it can cause the odor to be worse and I know having sex with a YI really sucks. But all was good and I didn't have any problems.
Good luck all!

Its HELL.
Ebon, maybe its not a yeast infection you have, because with all of my experience i've never had that kind of burning sensation you describe! Have you checked the thread on lichen sclerosis? There's a lady talking about YI but actually having lichen sclerosis. That would explain the continuous burning sensation. I've never heard of a YI burning like that, no discharge or itchiness, and to have to take advil....YI are just itchy and messy aren't they?

Thank you DNSX, I will inquire about the refresh, because i've noticed my period always seems to get rid of my YI, and then the YI comes back after about 2-3 days my period is over. Maybe its a PH balance thing (although it has to be a resistant strain because meds don't do any good, only lead to worst symptoms) Sometimes i think its my own body that has to get rid of it in the end, who knows...

48 HOURS AND NO RETURN OF BV - YET.
Just wanted to post here again and give a status update. I tood my last oral metronidazole on Monday around 2:00 pm. So far so good. The entire 7 days that I was on the oral metro. I was using RePhresh so that I wouldn't get a yeast infection. It seemed to work. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it will stay away for good.
If this works, I would recommend oral metronidazole 3x daily for 7 days while using RePhresh at the same time.

Just another quick update...
Tomorrow will be 7 days since I stopped taking my Metronidazole... so far so good. The BV has not returned and I'm still using the RePhresh every 3 days and all is good.
Good Luck to those of you still plagued by this...

Is Tindamax available now? This is the drug that was recently approved for the treatment of BV. If it is available for prescription now, has anyone tried it? I've had BV off and on for the last year and a half (right when my premenopause symptoms became severe. The best and most effective treatment that I have had is using Boric Acid suppositories (compounded by my local pharmacy). I am 48 and had never experienced anything like the BV. For me it was constant BURNING. I couldn't focus on anything. The clindamycin prescribed first caused me to get a yeast infection. One week I was on the clindamycin, the next yeast infection medication, the next clindamycin, and so forth. It was a never ending cycle for 6 months. I thought I would go crazy. Finally, I did research and found that the Boric Acid had helped some.

So this is it guys - as you might remember I've been "BV free" since my Clindesse dosage right after my last period. This month's started today. I'm going to go with tampons to see how it goes since I used pads last month and it made no difference. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't return.

Well, I figured I'd give an update to my own thread. lol. Right now I'm on 2 weeks of Clindamycin cream and after that I'll have to take an estrogen cream 3 times per week for 2 months to prevent relapse, I suppose. I only have a little more hope with this regimen but not much. Nothing has worked before. With my luck, why would this work now?

Hi Ebon, what is Clindamycin cream for, Yeast infection or BV? I thought you had YI, but then again I get confused between names, maybe I'm thinking of someone else. and what is the estrogen for???? I've never heard of this treatment. You seem so bummed out, at least this is a new therapy, something you haven't tried before. You can't give up hope!!! Do you know I actually suffered a BV and YI 2 weeks ago, together? That was the absolutely worst thing I've ever been through, I couldn't even sleep at night it was so itchy and wet...Ugh! The BV went away, thankfully, but I feel another YI coming on, my period is around the bend. It is totally bummy, but I am happy the BV is gone. Just got to figure what to do to stop the YI. Anyway don't give up hope, there is something out there, maybe this is it. Has anyone heard from Babydawl? I think she had an important appt. around this time concerning her YI, didn't she?

Well I have not had a recurrence so far and I'm so thankful. This thread has also quieted down so is it safe to say that others are getting relief as well? I am however curious about everyone's thoughts on this being related to hormone changes due to age. I notice that ebon_aurora is on estrogen cream so does your dr think this is a hormonal thing?

It turns out its not yeast. Its a gardnerella and strep b infection. Which is why the burning is so bad. I'm on Clindamycin for the infections and then the estrogen cream to prevent relapse. According to what I've read, the estrogen cream will help restore the good bacteria. I'm only 21 but I know I probably have low estrogen. I know for sure that my hormone levels are out of whack because my testosterone level is 60 points higher than what it should be in a normal woman. I have symptoms of high testosterone level but also of a low estrogen level. They didn't check my estrogen and its probably because I'm only 21. They feel they don't need to. Which is dumb, seeing as I'm clearly not hormonally normal. So, they're thinking I have PCOS and its not common to have low estrogen with this disorder. Regardless, that doesn't mean that I don't have a problem in that area. I just hate doctors sometimes....

well, atleast you got some answers, that is more than some of us get. When you are finishes with these meds. will you be normal down below?? I hope to hear from you soon. Congrats on an answer. They should check your hormones!!!!!

Well, I'll be honest. I seriously doubt that I will be normal after this. Especially if I can't get my hormone levels where they should be. I've grown pretty pessimistic as far as my health is concerned. I've been sick for over a year and a half and am just now finding out what the cause could be (endocrine issues). I have little to no faith in most doctors and I won't be shocked if I was given a wrong treatment. I have so many times in the past. Why should I expect this time to be any different?

Thanks for that answer ebon_aurora. I am 45 so I was curious if this is something to be expected the closer I get to menopause but apparently your case is not related to that. I do however feel your distress with doctors and their lack of willingness to find an answer sometimes. We have to be our own doctors and researchers and then tell them what we want them to do. I read that Suzanne Somers book "the sexy years" when it came out and it really enlightened me as to how involved we really have to get with our own health in order to get normalcy, especially when hormones are involved. Her new book has a list of doctors in the appendix who believe in bioidentical hormones and who seem to be willing to work with the patient to acheive hormone balance. I can't attest to any of them because I have not yet gotten to the point of needing hormone replacement but it sounds like ebon_aurora could benefit from someone who can help get those hormones in line.

Hi Ebon, my sincerest sympathies and hopes that this gets better. I know how you feel about doctors, we seem to all be going through the same thing! but you can't lose hope, there is a remedy out there, and maybe this is it! I thought the burning sensation you described a few threads ago was a little strange for a yeast infection, its good that you now know what it is caused by! My guess is you will have to work extra hard on building up your immune system to help combat the infections and stay healthy. I think seeing an alternative healer also would probably help. Sometimes they actually take time to think "outside the box", unlike so many regular doctors. Anyhow I really wish you best of luck, its times like these that we see how important our health is to our mental well-being.
