My son is about to complete 6 months on May 18th. In the last 2 visits teh Pedeatrician heard a heart murmur; she thinks it is innocent and nothing to worry about. However, she also said that it might be good to consult a cardialogist if we want.

I am really worried sick about this. She named the murmur as Still's murmur. Does anyone have a similar experience?

Thanks,

Yes. i was born with one.. one of my valves is short causing backwashing of the blood and periodic hiccups due to gradual oxygen depletion of my blood. I was a high school and college athelete and now am a martial arts instructor.

Getting a baseline echocardiagram is a good idea and it will not hurt the child.. think of it as a sonagram for the heart.

Best Wishes.

My daughter had a murmur when she was around 3-4 months old. The Dr. never gave it a specific name so it might not be the same thing as your son's. Hers was gone by the time she was a year old. Good luck!

Thanks Morrison!

Did it last for 6-7 months until she was a year old?

I think they heard it twice and then at her 1 year it was gone. I don't know how many appointments she had in between that time. It's been awhile, she's 6 now! LOL I remember though that they acted like it was really common and weren't concerned.

I would also suggest an ECHO. It is hard with an infant....best to try to do it while sleeping. But, this will tell you exactly what kind of murmur it is, and if it may eventually need treatment. My cousin's son has one and she freaked when they sent her for the ECHO. BUT, it was not anything serious. MANY people live with this, including myself. I found out when I was 25! NO one ever told me I had one. They sent me for an ECHO and said it was the "good" kind and not to worry about it. I am sure your son is just fine and will live a completely normal, healthy life. :)

My husband had a murmur at 3 months. He outgrew by age 3. It is pretty common. It just takes a while for those little heart valves to grow and close all the way. Try not to worry.
