I had mine taken out on tuesday and I've been extremely sore as well. I have had severe pain from the air they put in me. It's starting to feel better today. I am taking percocet for the pain and I can tell when I take 2 of them, I'm totally exhausted. I haven't slept much, unless I take 2 of the pills.
My back is starting to hurt too but I can tell it's b/c of the way I'm walking.
If you are resting all the time, then you're body will get sore. Your muscles get stiff fast. I was told to get up and walk around as much as I could b/c it will help get the air out and keep my muscles from getting stiff.
Hang in there.

Thanks so much for the response! =o) I've been moving around a bit, but I find that I'm soooo exhausted! I've never felt this fatigued, and top that off with not being able to sleep at night because of the back pain. Grr!
I supposed I can feel better knowing that I'm not the only one going through this, right? =o)
Thanks so much again for the response. You made me feel a bit better already!

No problem. I'm glad I made you feel better. I'm also having back pain. I think it's from walking hunched over so much.
Can I ask if you're able to eat solid foods? I'm nervous to eat anything but so far so good. I've eaten crackers, soup, cookies, an oatmeal square, yogart, 1 cup of coffee and a half of a turkey sandwich. My stomch kind of grumbles, like things are starting to "move" but I haven't really felt sick or anything.

I think you're right...the back pain must be from walking hunched over. I called my doctor because I've had so many surgeries but I never remember feeling this kind of pain in the rest of my body before. They said it's the anesthesia being absorbed into the body, and that they had to use more than usual for me, since for some reason, the normal amounts did't work.
As far as eating...I'm supposed to drink clear liquids only for two days, but I cheated on that and ate oatmeal and toast more than once. :) I haven't had a problem with gurgling in my stomach or anything like that, but I am struggling once again with constipation. lol
They actually told me to double up on the vicoden but I don't want to do that....I'm already a bit loopy! So they said to alternate advil and then the vicodin every 4 hours.
I hope this helps....and I hope you're feeling better soon! :D

I had to say that even though I'm having a lot of gurgling in my stomach, I am having trouble "going" as well. I'm hoping it will resolve itself by tomorrow sometime. I was afraid of the opposite happening, since that's what a lot of people told me usually happens after the surgery. I'm kind of afraid to eat anything but someone made us dinner tonight and I ate chicken pasta alfredo. I felt OK but since I"m still very bloated, I couldn't eat much.

The constipation is from the pain meds. If you ate something "alfredo" at this point, I'm surprised you aren't doubled over in pain! Do you know how much fat is in that dish??

Yes, and I was afraid to eat it but I was very hungry and it was sitting in front of me. I really need to gain some weight anyway. I ate a child size portion, so maybe it just wasn't enough to bother me.
My stomach is actually feeling kind of normal, as far as eating goes. I had shredded wheat and 2 cups of coffe for breakfast with no problems. I hope it stays this way.

I'm full of gas...I have taken some stool softeners, drank some prune juice with apple juice mixed in and also taken a laxative. The only progress I've made is getting rid of the gas, but not anything in my bowel. I'm so bloated!! Ughh...I do believe this is part of my back pain.
I wish I could have a BM and haven't taken many pain pills just because I don't want to make things worse. Soooo....I can't 'go' and I'm in lots of pain. Makes no sense to me! lol

Suzy - I know the feeling. I've also been feeling like that. Mine was take out on tuesday and I finally "went" this morning afte 2 cups of coffee. I felt the need for about 2 days but couldn't. I also had the gassy and bloated feeling. It is slowly starting to go away with each day.
Hang in there.

Your fatigue is more than likely caused by the pain pills. When you can, stop taking them and see if it lessens.

If you're still having fatigue, my dr told me it was normal. She said I had no restrictions as far as what I could do (2 weeks later) but that I will tend to get very tired a lot faster then before while my body is still healing.

I had my GB out 6 days ago and was taking Oxycodone as pain med first 2 days. That caused terrible tiredness, lightheadedness, and slight nausea. I am sure in big part came from this narcotic pain medicine. Then, on DR recommendation, I switched to what he calls "Tylenol 3" (still prescription needed)and I am doing much better. Tylenol 3 is lighter pain killer than Oxycodone and that helped me tremendously.
Starting yesterday, I don't even need Tylenol 3 - of course still sourness where the incisions sites are, but not too bad. Still have that chest discomfort, but DR told me we would need to wait at least 4-6 weeks before we know if symptoms improve with GB removal. I noticed that when I take Clonazepam (anxiety pills) I notice slight improvements with both chest pain and an overall mood. So, really not sure yet what is going on - seems to be very complex equation, but exchanging opinions here on the board definitely helps.

I had mine out on the 1st of this month. I received a diagnosis of Lupus a week after the surgery which explained feeling like death warmed over. I stayed on Demerol for five days and switched to Extra Strength Tylenol after that. I did experience muscle spasms on my first night home and was prescribed Adavant which I took with the Demerol for 24 hours. I had bad abdominal pain, gas and bloating, pain up the right shoulder, constipation, and horrible fatigue.
Once you get off the heavy duty pain meds, regulate your bowel, and start eating good sources of protein, you should hopefully start feeling better. I also couldn't lay on my side until a couple of weeks later. Some people just bounce back from the surgery, but I knew I wouldn't be, so you just have to be good to yourself and patient. No running of marathons yet! I hope you feel more like yourself soon!! :)

Hi all, I am 3 days post op and was doing great until today. I woke up very sore with the swelling seeming to be kessebubg some, my back hurts, etc. I took a Darvocet and within an hour I was nauseated, very weak, dizzy and just needed to immediately lay down. That scared me so I was wondering if any of you had experienced this the first week. I was doing pretty good till today. I also can not go. I did a little bit yesterday. Should I take some stool softeners to help. I am writing this while lying down. So excuse misspellings. Thanks so much.

I am at day 8 after surgery. I experienced costipation at the beginning and I think this took place bcs of pain medications. I did use stool softener and it helped, so give it a try. I used Oxycodone which made me exteremely nauseous. So, I stopped it since Tylenol 3 (prescription med Apap/Codeine 300-30). I don't remember that I had any back pain in years and after the surgery I had it few times. Don't know if this is coincidenece or its related to surgery.

Hi! I had my surgery in April, and have been extremely constipated ever since. I do believe that it could be due to the pain killers, as I have been on Percocet ever since, because as soon as I go toff of them, I had kidney stones, and had to get back on, and just got off it Monday. I am doing better now, and have had 2 BMs since. But the entire month and a half I couldn't go but like 1 time a week, if that. It was horrible. I am feeling so much better, and went to the doctor yesterday and he said that it was the first time he has ever seen me healthy (I have been going tohim for 2 years). I still have kidney stones, which I will be getting my options for in 2 weeks, but I jus had surgery to remove them last Thursday. Doing much better.
