People react to these meds in lots of different ways, as everybody is quite unique. Some people won't gain weight whatsoever. Likewise, it can take several days to several weeks to kick in depending upon the person.
I found Paxil to be ok to be honest, but I found Zoloft to be much more effective for my OCD. Paxil took a couple of weeks before I felt better and in all the time I was on it I don't think I put on weight at all. Of course, it could be completely different for you. It's a bit hit and miss with medication when it comes to finding the ideal one for you.
Hopefully Paxil does the trick. Good luck!

Hey! My doctor put me on Paxil for my Pur O OCD and she started me at 10mg....it worked for about 3 weeks, I was intrusive thought free...then they came back...Now I am on 20mg and I have been for about a month and I have been really good, no bad thoughts...I mean I know they are still there but they dont take over my mind.
They only side effects I had were, my teeth chattered, like my jaw was quivering, and I had a tremendous urge to stretch my whole body all the time, as well as really intense unstopable yawns. I did not gain any weight,a s a matter of fact my appetite has lessened.... Anyways those side effects only lasted about a week and then went away, it was worth the side effects though. When I up my doses, the effects dont even reoccur.
Oh also I had trouble sleeping for a about a week as well.
Everyone reacts differently, but keep in mind that the above side effects are all symptoms of something messing with your neurological system, so it could happen on any meds.

Also, it only took about a week and a half to 2 weeks to kick in...but the intrusive thoughts were worse for about 3 days, that again can happen on any meds

Ohhhh wait I forgot about a biggggg one. I completely lost my sex drive...like it's LONG GONE...and when I do have sex or anything of the sort I can get turned on, but there is no way an orgasam will happen...I can feel it almost there but it just wont happen. It's very frustrating, and like usual it may not happen to anyone. But apparently it is common with most anti-depressants, as my mom puts it "You become numb below the waist".
Sorry probably TMI

That's what I am afraid of - to lose the sex drive. I would've gone on meds before, but it is such an importan thing for me. You will probably make fun of me, but this is probably one of the last things my OCD did not touch. Oh well.

My god I would never ever make fun of you. I can totally understand not wanting to lose it...its difficult to do that. YOU just need to make a decesion, is my sanity or my sex drive more mportant to me and if you chose your sex drive then that just means you have to go and try different kinds of drugs until you find one that does not affect your sex drive, and there are some out there. I was completely losing my mind and when my doc put me on paxil and it worked but i lost my sex drive i chose to stay on the meds cause at that point in time my sanity was more important to me, and when I am a feeling a bit more stable I will try something else so that I can have my normal sex life back.
It's not stupid to want your sex drive, it's very important to lots of people
