View Full Version : So frustrated with doctors.

I have to vent somewhere - I'm new here and hope this is an ok place. I'm so frustrated with the medical profession, I'm ready to cry. My boyfriend has suffered for three years with mysterious GI problems. Mostly pain and vomiting.

I am not a doctor, yet just looking on the internet I have found lots of possibilities, from parasites, to CVS, organ problems, bile reflux, etc. Yet, after two trips to the emergency room, seeing two docs at the emergency med center, having Gallbladder removal at the hospital from salmonella infection, and seeing an "expert" on parasitic diseases, nobody has tested him, or told him what might be wrong with him. The last doctor took stool samples, found nothing, and then gave up and told him to go to a general practitioner.

He finally went to a GI doctor last week and had a blood test, his FIRST blood test in all that doctoring time. And, the GI doc is sending him for a colonoscopy. Still, no more stool sampling, no endoscopy, no nutritional questions, the doctor took practically NO medical history. The GI doctor seems to think it's just too much bile from not having a gall bladder.

He is having vomiting often enough to be totally debilitated, yet not dangerously dehydrated... the doctor gave him cholestyramine but he can't even keep it down.

I just can't believe how unconcerned and uninterested the doctors have been. I am searching now for an actual good doctor. I think this would make all the difference.

I'm sorry about all that you two are going through. I know how frustrating it can be to be sick and have no answers. It took me over three years to get a diagnosis of MS (and I'm not even sure it's 100%).

Have you been to a teaching hospital? I see that you are from Ohio, have you considered going to the Cleveland Clinic? I do hope that you don't give up on getting answers.

If you haven't already done so, get copies of all of his records. Review them for any mistakes, and also to see exactly what he's been tested for. Construct a timeline of his symptoms, doctors seen, testing done, etc.

Good luck!
