My life is being made a misery by my period...and I wonder if anyone else suffers all these symptoms together? Amy ideas to overcome this? Please share with me so I know I'm not alone!
I get really bloated the week running up to my period, feel PMS really badly and I get constipated. When my period finally comes, I pass a lot of smelly wind for several days, and I get wind in my vagina too which is loud and you can hear it when I walk. I also can't stop needing to pee constantly and I mean literally every 5-10 minutes which is bad news when I'm at work.
During the PMS week I get a ravenous appetite making me even more bloated because if I don't eat double my usual amount I get snappy and my blood sugar drops and I feel faint and shaky.
As my PMS lasts a week and my period about 5 days there isn't much of the month left to feel "normal" as my cycle is quite short...so what can I do??? It's very embarassing and causes other people to ask me am I ok and why all these trips to the toilet!!!!
I've tried water retention tablets but my body is really stubborn they didn't help - it doesn't matter what I eat either the symptoms don't change!
This month's made me feel so depressed - I had thrush as well as a period to deal with.
I am intolerant to the combined pill and have been told for health reasons not to take it again, and I have also tried the mini pill but it really messed me up - no periods at all (you'd think I'd be pleased) but just got more and more bloated for months on end!
Any help or advice much appreciated...
Many thanks

You might try Vitex (chaste tree berry) and/or Dong Quai. Both of these are Eastern remedies used to help balance the hormones. I used these transitioning off BCPs and they did seem to help my PMS moodiness as well as cramps while on my period. For your mood & energy, you might try taking a good B-vitamin complex (do note that this may cause your urine to be bright yellow in color as you excrete excess B-vitamins in the urine) & fish oil pills. I really found fish oil pills combined with regular aerobic exercise & a sensible diet (plenty of fruits & veggies) did wonders for my mood. It also helps to eliminate or severely cut down on caffeine all cycle long, and in the 2 weeks before your period, try to limit your salt intake & drink plenty of water to help with bloating. Increased water with fiber intake (you can use a fiber supplement like Benefiber or Fibersure or eat high fiber foods--oatmeal, bran, berries, beans & legumes) should help with constipation. If not, you can also try taking a magnesium supplement (try 250 mg, you can up it to 500 mg) but do note this may cause you to urgently need the bathroom and too much magnesium will cause diarrhea (that's the active ingredient in Milk of Magnesia, after all), but you have to see what your body can handle. I used to take 250 mg magnesium in the first 2 weeks of my cycle and 500 mg (2 250 mg pills) in the 2 weeks before my period. I never did have a good reaction to BCPs so I can sympathize with you there.
As far as the gasiness goes, there's not too much you can do about it other than taking something like Gas-X or perhaps Beano before you eat.

Thank you for your reply - it is much appreciated...unfortunately I couldn't reply after my post because my boyfriend was involved in a serious accident just after I posted, and for obviuous reasons this is the first time I've logged back online. You must have thought I'd disappeared!!
I will give some of your suggestions a try!
