bass11 05-12-2007, 12:37 AM wondering how this compares to oxycodone and can you take them together Sponsor zeroman 05-12-2007, 09:58 AM ultram is considered less powerful than oxycodone. as far as taking them together, your doc can tell you that. if hes not aware of it than I certainly wouldnt recommend experimenting on your own. saversano 05-12-2007, 10:11 AM I never took Oxycondon , or any other narcotic but I did take ultram for a few months. Everyone reacts differently to drugs but I can tell you it didn't ease my leg pain in the slightest. The only thing that ever helped me a little was Nuproxin . I hope the ultram helps you . technomom 05-12-2007, 10:57 AM Oyxcodone & Ultram can be taken together, but you should still check with your doc. I take oxycodone, ultram & neurontin. The Ultram & neurontin keeps my pain at a tolerable level (if I am not doing much) the oxycodone (vicodin) is for my break through pain. Moldova 05-12-2007, 11:30 AM Oxicodone is more powerful, it is considered narcotic; I am almost sure that Ultram is not a narcotic, it is just an effective pain medication for mild pain relieve. I would confirm with Pharmacy you use if you can take both of them together, if i have any concerns i usually call them and they happy to answer your questions. But why not try mild one first and see if it helps you and if not - you can try the strongest one. good luck cape1963 05-12-2007, 11:56 AM Its been said that Ultram can cause seizures...be careful...I cannot take it because it that...I take oxycodone...I would assume that if you are taking oxycodone, the ultram would not do much...considering how powerful the oxy is...oxy is the strongest pain med, beside the patches...oxy and patches are the only thing that takes away my leg and back pain...even the Oxycontin does not provide me pain relief...so I don't undertand what the big deal is with the abuse of oxycontin..I know we are all different, oxy just doesn't provide me pain relief...I've heard that people who take these meds for recreational use, get a high off of them because they don't experience any pain...guess that's why they are so abused. mammaof2 05-12-2007, 12:40 PM no comparison. i've been on both for a while. ultram is a synthetic opiod, and never worked well for me. it has only a mild binding affect, where oxycontin has a much stronger binding affect, and is pretty heavy duty. i dont know about taking them together. you could always call a pharmacy and ask. kkmom 05-12-2007, 12:43 PM Bass, I am glad you you asked this question on ultram, because I was just prescribed it by a doc who knows nothing about me and my pain history, because my doc was gone and I had a bad reaction to the ms contin. So the ultram is non narcotic? I was just wondering how is this gonna work for me if the strong stuff has not worked for me. chatterboxsd 05-14-2007, 09:42 PM Kkmom, My understanding of ultram is that it's a synthetic opiate. So, it hits the opoid receptors, but doesn't do to them what real opiates do. This is to reduce physical addiction. There can still be psychological addiction, and I just have to think there could be some physical addiction if it relieves pain, but that's just my opinion. ALSO, it works by doing something with your seratonin. I have had really bad reactions to SSRI's in the past. When ultram was prescribed, my pharmacist warned me while my pm np said it wouldn't trigger anything. Um... 2 pills and 5 days of intense anxiety later, I'm thinking ultram is unfortunately for me. I hope it helps you. It does seem like a better option for those of us living with daily pain. Argh! Just exactly where is that magic wand?! - Margaret |
