I had my surgery in Oct 05 and have not used my bone growth stimulator in over a year. I no longer have a need for it and hate throw it in the trash. I know they are very expensive and i was lucky that my insurance paid for the whole thing. Any suggestions for what to do with it. I hope I never need it again.:)

I would just tuck it away somewhere where you can find it and pray that you never have to use it again.

God Bless

Hi Dh,

If you don't want to hold on to it, then maybe check with your community areas and see if theres a place that could use it. Between my son having 5 ankle sureries, and my 3 spinal surgeries we accumulated alot of medical items. I try first in my own community to see if any of the elderly are in need of anything.

There is a place here that will either give or rent for a very small fee, to anyone who is low income, elderly or broke. I always feel so good donating to them because I know that there are so many who are in need, have no insurance and have no way to get it.

Take care

I asked my doctor if he knew who could use it or even if there was some doctor doing work in 3rd world countries and he was no help. If anyone can give me the name of groups that might want them I want someone to get some use out of it.

Maybe try Salvation Army, local hospitals or your local church's. If they don't, then maybe they can give you some names of other charities.

I have had the same thought about mine. I don't use mine anymore, bought and paid for. Those are great suggestions Tusconlady. I will look into group in my area, I think I know of a group of doctors who goto 3 world country's every couple years and do work in area clinics, so I will look into that!! Got a few things here. Great idea, thanks.

Interesting enough... My bone growth stimulator was inserted under my skin during the surgery. It was removed 11 month later during 1hr surgery. But i still have the wires: they are not removable due to attachment to the hardware.
Portable one, the one you all talking about was even the option. I wonder why?

BoneGrowth stimualtor ? Is this a belt that wraps around your waste and sends electrodes through it to your back ? Like Moldova said I thought they were implanted in your body ?

Call me stupid ! I don't know . :dizzy:

Hey Shawley....

It's like a belt type, mine has a circle type on the back and wraps around to the front. If nothing else, try searching it and hopefully it'll show the pictures.

This was the only one that I knew prior to surgery, but have since learned about others here :)

Take care and I hope you had a good weekend.

You might try calling the company that made it. Mine came with a pre-paid mail sticker right on the outside of the case so I could mail it back to them when I was done with it. They refurbish them and supply them to people whose insurance won't cover it or who couldn't otherwise afford it. Mine was from EBI. I don't know if the other companies do this, too, but it might be worth checking out.
