My eight year old daughter has been suffering daily from GERD for about a year. She is on prevacid solutabs and also over the counter maalox. Her GI did a endoscopy a few weeks ago. He did biopsy several areas(all were normal) and also biopsied for celiac disease, also negative. When they called to discuss the results he basically told me that he does not want to see her anymore. He said that she is maxed out on meds and short of doing a nissen there is nothing he can do for her. I feel really angry, she still is having severe reflux every day despite the meds.Is there anything I should be trying? I can't stand that she is in pain everyday. Dr did not think she was a great surgery candidate since she is not vomiting from this.BY the way, she is lactose intolerant and we did rule out food allergies. Any thoughts or ideas? Is this Dr correct that there is nothing we can do? Should I seek a second opinion or will a new DR tell me the same thing? HELP!!!

Seek a second opinion. He should be trying to figure out the cause of her reflux. You can try suppelments. They've helped me tremendously. You can try any one of these. Digestive enzymes, green tea capsules, alfalfa, chlorophyll, zinc, or probiotics. If you try any of those make sure you get something that's suitable for children. Also check with her doc to make sure none of those will react with any meds she's on. You said food allergies were ruled out. Did an allergist test her or just a regular doctor?
