View Full Version : When Did Your Baby Start to Wave???

I have 8 1/2 month old twins who aren't waving yet. We always wave to them and say hello and bye-bye when coming and going...but no waving yet.

I raised it with their ped and she didn't express concern, but developmental charts suggest they should have been doing this by now. Otherwise, they seem to be progressing/developing well.

Anyone have babies that didn't/don't wave at this age? Anything else we can do to encourage it?

THANKS!

Do worry too much. My son didn't wave until he was well over a year. It just didn't interest him. My second waved a little before a year. Every kid is different, so let them develop at their own speed. My doctor told me when I was concerned about my 3 year old's non-interest in potty training..."Don't rush walking, talking, crawling and potty training." I'm sure you could add waving to that list. My oldest couldn't wave and yet his cousin could early on, but he could say the alphabet way before her! To each their own! Good luck!

My 11 month old dd just started waving this past week. Try not to pay too much attention to those developmental charts. They are only a guideline and most of them will have disclaimer (for lack of a better word) that says all babies develop differently and at different paces. If everything else is progressing well and your ped doesn't show any concern then don't worry. They will wave when they are good and ready.

It's funny, dh and I did the same thing with dd, waving as we would come and go and nothing happened. We would blow kisses too and still nothing. Then one day we stopped and decided she would do it when she wanted. The next day I gave my dh a kiss before he left for work and she sat on the floor making kissy faces at us. She sucks her cheeks in and looks like a fish and we laugh everytime. A few weeks later she started waving. The thing is she will only do it in front of us and her sister. We can't get her to anything like that when anyone else is around.

The 10 month old at my playgroup just starting waving (not consistently, though) this week.

Don't worry about it... :)

Mine was also 10 months. I wouldn't worry at all. AND once one does it, the other will too. :)

Thanks so much, ladies! I'll try to be more patient with the little guys and stop worrying so much...you know first-time moms. :)

Don't worry, I'm going to be a mom for the third time any day now and I still worry! It never changes:)

We can't get her to anything like that when anyone else is around. That's always the way!

My dd started about 9-10 months, but now at 13 months she still won't always wave. It's funny though, she ALWAYS waves at passing school buses! Too cute!

Yep mine were all healthy deliveries no complications except mecomium and none of them waved at that age. I stopped reading those books because my pedatrician told me she would clock me in the head if i called her wiht another question. LOL

My 4th is just sitting up right now and she is almost 10 months old. Everyone said oh my she is late. I'm like yeah right for whos standards? Certainly not mine. she is a peach and so active just because she doesnt do what the books say on time doesnt mean anything.
