I have a severe gut motility disorder along with a one-year-old ileostomy. By gradually increasing the amount of Miralax that I take, we have been fairly successful in decreasing the number of ER visits for pseudointestinal blockage episodes. From 4+/week, we're down to 2+/month. This, however, means that I am taking three capsful (51g) five times a day, and I am constantly emptying my (high output) pouch as a result. Dropping the dosage down results in very thick (toothpaste) consistency stools, and bouts of distension, pain and nausea. I am wondering about my fluid intake. Since my stool is watery (what the gastroenterologist wants: it keeps my intestine full, and thus eliminates the "kinking" that leads to these episodes), should I be increasing my fluid intake? Is there anyone else out there with the same problems? This is my first post.
