View Full Version : Reactive Hypoglycemia and meter/test strips

Hi. I'm new to the forum. I have reactive hypoglycemia and am well aware it could turn into type 2 diabetes. Type 2 runs in my family and so I am trying hard to learn what I can and do what I can. While also under immense amount of stress with other things going on in my life.

My question is, do people with this type of hypoglycemia test their blood glucose levels on a daily or frequent basis or do they just wing it and hope that their diet and all is working out?

If I should be testing, I don't have insurance and can't afford a meter or test strips, which I notice test strips are very expensive and would be the bigger obstacle of the two. I am on medicaid and not sure they would pay for it or not. If I should be testing, would I be able to get my doctor to write me a prescription for a meter and strips? Or at least the strips?

I'm new to all of this and not quite sure what I should be doing. Thanks in advance for any responses. Much appreciated!

I used to have hypoglycemia (though not reactive_ and did test my blood sugar. I had a script from my doctor and my insurance paid.

Thank you. Maybe I'll get lucky and when I get in to see my new regular doctor he/she will help me out with this.
