Today i had a hectic day and had to run around and pay bills and get my kids from 2 different places at once.:dizzy: Anyhow while i was backing up i couldnt see these 4ft thick poles surrounding a firehydrant and i hit it pretty hard. I was so scared but i didnt harm my van. I ended up hurting my back and neck really bad and my right arm hurts going down. Being a pain patient i didnt want to go to the er because i didnt think there would b anything that they could do for my besides tell me to take my painmeds i have. I didnt want them to think i was seeking more cuz i dont need any but now im concerned about myself. What r ur oppinions on this? I do have a appt with my dr for my refills on friday, should i just mention it to him so he can note it in the chart? Im not on no contracts just to let u all know. Or should i chance it and go to er to make sure i didnt do no terrible damage?? U all have been so great in advice in the past, so im here first. Thanks everyone.

Hi Nu2Patch - I think that if you are concerned that you've damaged your body in some way, that you need to go to the ER. Just because you go for a checkup, doesn't mean that you'll accept any new pain medications. I would definately let your pain management doc know when you see him on Friday. But, in the meantime, if you think you've broken a bone or something like that, I'd make a trip to my local ER. Hope you feel better - isn't it just the worst thing when you live with pain every single day to find yourself involved in something that increases it!!! All the best to you - KathyMac

Hi Kathy,
Im sorry it took so long to respond, ive had a terrible cold and have felt like ive been run over by a car. I feel better from the accident now. At my appt i told my dr what happened and he was very understanding. He said we would just moniter how i feel and see if the headaches continue. Its hard to tell right now though if they r caused from the accident or my cold! He filled my rx early even though i didnt need him too, he said just in case i need to take more than usual. He told me never to worry about going to er they can think what they want but he knows me and how i am. so i guess thats a good thing:) . thank u for the responeand for caring. I hope u r doing well.

Hi Nu2, I hope it's nothing more than a flair up and it's kind of expected to some degree. The thing to be concerned about is if you go to the ER, Tell them you had a car accident they may test your blood or urine and you could be charged with DUI. It's pretty much spelled out in the contract I signed, but I think the contract covers worse case scenario and it msay not happen depending on the doc, when you go to the ER etc etc.. However I don't think it would be strange to hear they did do a UA or blood work and you were charged if you went to the ER right away.
You right, the ER isn't going to do much unless you really burt yourself, the kind of hurt where you don't pass go and get directly to the ER where they admit you. I would call you PM doc and explain some way of taking that kind of jolt if this is something more than your BT meds can handle. This is what they are for, when we have a flair or an increase in pain. If you have an increase in other symptoms of course it's more concerning neurologically to a doc or surgeon, but an increase in pain is what's expected and the Pm doc did give you the means to manage BT pain if he prescribes BT meds.
If you experence something more than you expect, then get the docs involved or go to the ER, but these are things to consider from a medical and legal point of veiw. Another thing to be aware of is, if anyone is opiate dependent and they show up in an ER unconscious, one of the first things they do is give you narcan just in case. So it's not a bad idea to carry something or wear a bracelet that tells of your med use. I have a medtronics card and my pump setting in my wallet. Others use medic allert or whatever is available, but it is important info if your injured and can't speak for yourself.
I hope you get over it quick, there is usually nothing wrong with adding an OTC antiinflamatory for short term use if you know your going to stiffen up after 24 hours.
Good luck, Dave

Nu2patch,
One of the best things I did when I fell back in 1999 (or so) was make an emergency visit to my PM doctor. He Rx'd me some extra medicine, which I used "like nobody's business"!
He examined my foot and saw the frightening bruising and swelling. I asked him if I should go to the ER. Because the ER's in our area provide practically NO help whatsoever, he offered a BIG "negatory"! (That was the word he used.) Fortunately, he Rx'd something potent (I usually remember--but not this time) and told me which exercises to perform (for a long, long time). Eventually, my foot healed. This was called a "dropsy" injury.
I have not ever had much success--ever--with any ER visit. Others have had better success. My current doctor told me that the ER isn't there to help anyone, and I must agree. Even my 21-year-old nephew received practically no substantial treatment after he was seriously mugged--that included a significant length of unconciousness.
My vote would go to visiting the primary (or, in your case, the pain doctor) first. LOOKING AT THE DATES OF THE POSTS, the whole thing is probably moot by now!
Nonetheless, I apparently have too much time on my hands!
Sincerely,
Jon (Conductor)
