Hello all, I got a phone call from my pain managements office saying my pain Dr has had to leave on a family ER and my apt for my refills is tomorrow. The nurse asked for my primary physicans phone number and she was going to call and ask them to refill all my meds. I take oxycontin 40mgs twice a day and 4 percocets a day 5mgs, and klonapin to sleep. I called the nurse and gave her a heads up and she said they normally do not do that if your under a pain contract but I explained its an ER and a one time thing only so we will see if they will do it. the nurse is going to call them tomorrow. the nurse at the pain clinic said if they won't do it they will call in W/D meds for me. Nice huh? I am a bit scared as this is not going to be pretty for me. my PCP is very nice and used to prescribe me vicadin ES so perhaps if worse comes to worse he can give me that for a month, even though it will not work nearly as well as oxycontin does on my pain condtion. Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks, SS

This has not happened to me yet, but I do see your delimma. My PCP also will not write anything like oxycontin and I am on oxycontin and percocet as well. I hope you get everything worked out and you dont have to go through any WD.....they should have told you to come in and get your scripts before he went out of town and rescheduled you to see him when he returned but some docs like to be difficult I guess. Like I said I hope you get everything worked out, and I sure hope this never happens to me!
Best of Luck

Did they say how long your doc. would be gone? For example,if it was only a wk,
then you could've requested a refill for only a wk,maybe the other doc. would of felt more comfortable writing a script for 7 days, instead of 30 days.I hope the other doc. understands, and does it for you,its not like your going to another doc. for a script behind there back! Goodluck!

the Dr is back next week but they made my apt for 1 month. that is how they work they REFUSED to let me see him when he gets back if my PCP won't call in the meds, this Dr is so booked he is 2 hours behind every time I go and crams people in but is good he is just booked I am sure. No has called me and I am going to be out of meds by tomorrow. I am so pissed right now, I will keep you posted... hopefully my primary care Dr will take care of me but they do not prescribe oxycontin so I am most likely going to be in big trouble.
I have no idea what I am going to do, going through W/D'S is going to be ugly I have never had to go through that with oxycontin and I am really scared of how sick I might become.

Hi All I am so relieved and thankful, my PCP called in all my meds for a month. MAN, did I get lucky and I let the Dr no how pleased I was and told him thank you for doing that for me. He knows my situation and has all the records and info to back up my spinal issues. In fact I am thinking of going in for surgery in January as my pain is pretty bad these days. Anyhow thanks for the good thoughts and the advice.

What about your Oxycontin? That can't be called in or did you have to pick up your scripts. I was going to post you a note to ask your PCP about Roxicodone or even Percoset, which are the same as Oxy, only SA. Glad things worked out for you.

Hi Director, yes I had to go and pick them up in person as they can't be called in. Even when I was getting vicadin from my PCP they would not call them in, you had to go in and pick up your script and sign for it. they are very strict and I am surprised they did this for me as they normally don't prescribe anything stronger than vicadin so I feel so blessed. my pain Dr's mother died and I feel just awful for him.. He is a great man and his nurses worked hard to get everyone taken care of.
Thanks again, SS
