Isnt that one of the big fears of people with OCD? I just need some reassurance today. For some reason I think I have schizophrenia or am coming down with it. (Can you even come down with it or do people just have it????) my psychiatrist insist that I do not have it.

I have never had any psychoitc episodes so I dont know what my problem is.

Anybody ever have this fear.

I am very paranoid about things and it really bothers me. Maybe it is just the anxiety part of my OCD.

another problem I have is that, if people I work with or my family are talking amongst themselves I think they might be talking about me. Not that it really matters its just like I have to know if they are talking about me. Kind of different. Maybe its just being very nosy. Also its like I always have to know who people are talking to on the phone as well.

Anybody else deal with this paranoid/nosy problem?

Any advice????

Thanks!

Super150,
Yes, I know exactly what you're talking about.
I've finally reached the point where when I think they're talking about me I can at least tell myself, "So what if they are?"
Not that that makes all the anxiety go away.

And yeah, it didn't help that the medication that has given me the most relief is also used in higher doses to treat schizophrenia. I'm not yet convinced that OCD isn't just a mild form of Schizophrenia.
But then it's all a continuum. I mean, in our culture we are supposed to wash our hands after using the toilet. At one end of the continuum are OCD people who wash their hands constantly. At the other end are people who never do. So maybe schizophrenia is just at the far end of another continuum and OCD is in the middle.
None of this is to be taken as authoratative information. I'm just thinking with the keyboard.

LOL. Listen to us. I'm talking about schizophrenia as a "mild form of" something, and you're talking about "coming down with" it. Maybe we just need a box of special schizophrenia Kleenex.

Hi, please see my "Weird intrusive thoughts" thread, as I have had the exact problem. I'm not even sure if I have OCD, I just have intrusive thoughts. Not obssessions or compulsions, just the counter-thoughts. I think it may be related to anxiety. Just remember that skitsophrenics do go through real hallucinations, that being, they actually hear things. Not in their head, but coming from outside. Also, it can be visual and even smell related too. I wouldn't worry.

The old saying really is true. If you were skitsophrenic, you wouldn't know.

I always think that I have That in the back of my mine that I have scizophrenia And I always think that people are talking about me and mostly that they are talking badly about me. And I always have to know who people are talking to on the phone. But they say cuiosty killed the cat. And right now I am the cat.
