Hello,
I posted about my ordeal with work under the post "Suspended From Work Because of Pain Meds". Well today it hit critical mass. I have been terminated. First they drained me dry financially, emotionaly and physically for three months then they fire me! My family is insured thru me, we are going to loose all our benefits and everything! I don't feel like going into it now, you guys have been so supportive and understanding I felt I should let you know.

I am so sorry to hear that, I wish you the best. Please get legal help, and take advantage of anything that is possible. A legal coucil can advise you on what appropriate actions along with government help that are due you. Try to keep your chin up, because there is only one way to go now and that is up.

Shak,
I am SO sorry this has happened to you. When you are feeling better, I can help you, Hubby and I lost our benefits a few months back and I've found a few different ways to get our meds without depleteing our bank account. I also have a new doctor who is treating me for chronic pain, even though I have NO insurance. Just holler when you want and I will go over what we have tried.
Please hold your head high, I know thats hard to do right now, but believe me, this will pass. There are lots of things you can try, in the meantime, dont give up hope. Please keep posting and let us know how you are doing.
Your friend,
Fabby

Because of the "work issue" I quit taking my Kadian and am now taking Suboxone. Which works rather well. Honestly I feel as though it is more effective for my pain then the Kadian. Specificely the nerve pain. Go figure, maybe its just a placebo effect because I was realy hoping that it would work. But hey, I'll take what I can get. I am scared because my insurance will run out at the end of the month and the Suboxone is very expensive. It's aprox. $300 every two weeks! I do see my pain doctor before the end of the month and maybe he can write me for alot of pills and I can fill them while I have insurance, the pharmicist I go to actually recomended that. Hopfully I will get a new job soon that has decent coverage! I'm going to work on that now. Faby, that would be great if you have any suggestions for the meantime, I would really apreciate. For now I'm making as many doctor, dentist, eye visits, etc for my wife and I before the months end.
Thanks again,
shakorox

get your appointments in before end of month when insurance goes away, see what scripts you are on on heb 5 dollar program
let docs no no job no $ no insurance see which ones will work with you.
If kids under 18 in the house apply for food stamps if kids under 10 get wik now
Contact your local untied way service center ask to speak with social worker for what benfits u can qualify for now being unemployed esepcaily see what u can get for the kids
If any flexable spending funds left spend them before that goes away. Get dentist in now doc appointments in now, have docs write big ammounts for multiple refills ( if possible) and use your local agencies to see what help they can give.
Not all the stuff out there is great but there are some things you can get right away by getting in touch with right people.
Oh if need glasses get them before vision dental goes away
u can make it through this

Hi Again Shak!
The first thing to do is call the 800 number for the company that makes your med, ask to speak to someone about a drug scholorship, they can send you coupons each month for a free perscription, I dont know if this particular med does this, but I know others do and its certainly worth a try.
Then you can call your county medical facility and ask if they have a pharmacy. they can give you an appointment and look at your tax returns and if you qualify you can save a lot on meds, I was approved for $10 prescriptions, although they dont carry everything.
Go to Walmart or Target for any non narcotic med, most are on their $4 generic plan, but the only pain med on the list is Tramadol.
There are lots of small programs where you pay as little as $20 a year and get a card that can give you up to 70% off your meds, ask you pharmacist for details on those.
While you are calling county, ask about a physician referral if you need one, I now have (with no insurance) a great doctor that sees me for $20 a visit.
If you need emergency care, if at all possible, go to an urgent care rather than an ER, it will save you $100s of dollars, most want you to pay on the spot, but its cheaper in the long run.
If you do need to go to a hospital, you do not have to pay the bill all at once! they will take as little as $20 a month, and as long as you are showing good faith and trying to pay them something, you can continue to go there when you need to, of course in an emergency, they have to take you reguardless of ability to pay.
hopefully a combination of all of the above can help you until you get your new coverage.
Also dont forget to ask your doctor for samples, sometimes they can give you up to a month supply at no charge, the drug companies give them to them for free.
Good luck and hang in there!

Reckitt Benckiser makes Subutex and Suboxone -- they have a patient assistance program: http://www.rxassist.org/pap-info/company_detail.cfm?CmpId=173
Suboxone is schedule III -- up to 5 refills are allowed -- not sure if this is the same in all states. Due to its status as an "addiction treatment med" many doctors will not give out more than 1 refill, if any.
