View Full Version : High heart rate

My mother had a double bypass last Thursday (8 days ago) and on Monday she was put on IV drug Heparin because her heart rate was high, averaging 100 per minute resting, 120 after walking down the hall. She was also put on oral drugs. Yesterday they removed the IV because her heart rate had gone more normal but this morning it was up again. She is supposed to come home today but now she isn't. Has anyone had any experience with this? Will the heart rate eventually stabilize with or without medication? Any advice is appreciated.

do they know why it is high? like did they test for fluid in the heart sac, or do a echo to make sure everything was ok?

All the nurses have said is that some people have this kind of reaction to the surgery, and the heart goes into a kind of panic mode. I don't think they have done any diagnostic tests, other than blood tests to see if the drug therapy is working.
