Hi, had the full whack insomnia, anxiety and depression problem going on a long time now. I take currently paxil for anxiety and depression and I was on zopiclone to insomnia but came off that as it was only for temporary use.

To begin, I would just like to ask, if anyone here deems drinking a glass of whiskey before bed everynight as ok? because this is what I have been doing for the past 2 months since coming off zopiclone. I also (if have the opportunity) drink myself silly with beer to fall asleep. I am just curious whether anyone thinks this is developing into a drinking problem. I don't feel the need to drink during the day for anything, just at night, but as you know I end up with a bit of a sore head in the morning. I haven't told anyone else about this because I am frightened what they may say. I also feel the need to do this in secret - feeling like what I am doing is wrong. So I am abit worried something is going on here that maybe a problem.

Just need to here some thoughts.

Thanks

I kind of feel like you may already have some concerns that you need to drink to sleep or that this may develop into a drinking problem. It's probably not a good idea to depend on a drink to sleep as with anything habit forming it could become difficult to break the habit. Just as you, I too have a horrible time at falling to sleep and staying sleep. Right now I am listening to rain CD's, sometimes taking Valerian root or taking Benadryl once in a while to help with sleep problems. IMO it would be good to find an alternative method to falling asleep. Good Luck

Look at my sleep hygiene post.. alcohol is a big no no... as a sleep aide. It may give you an initial sleepiness, but it turns up interefering with you sleep a couple of hours later. Chamomile teas, benedry and many others are safer as sleep aides.

You should also look into seeing a sleep specialist. Insomnia my be a side effect of a more serious sleep disorder.

Sincerely,
MG

I was doing this all the time too. Drinking myself silly till I feel asleep. It feels terrible the next day though so I had to get some help. I am taking Lunesta right now and it helps so much. But now I have decided to stop drinking because it gives me restless sleep. I have felt so much better now. I don't know what I am gonna do when I quit taking the Lunesta but I'm just trying to take it a day at a time.
