I have afib and an LVdysfunction. I went to the doctor today and my A1c was 7.6. He started me on Avanadia with 2mg for five days and then 4 mg following that. I also take glimepride (sp?)
I was wondering if anyone with type 2 with heart problems uses this medication. From what I read this afternoon, you shouldn't take it if you have heart problems.
I am about at my wit's end. I don't want to end up in CHF. If you were me, would you just asked to be put on insulin? I talked to the pharmacist and he told me there was a basal insulin that a diabetic took at bedtime what helped to keep your blood sugar somewhat even.
Anyway, is there anyone that has heart problems taking Avandia? - sam

I am a type 2 diabetic who was given Advantia. I have a 100% blocked Right Coronary Artery and it caused right sided Congestive Heart Failure. I also have a failed bypass of that RCA and 8 stents. The Advantia caused fluid retention and I had to take Lasix for that. The doctor took me off of it because it aggravated the congestive heart failure.

The pharmacist was referring to Lantus, and yes, that does seem like a good option for you.

I am confused. I don't know what you are speaking about. Pharmacist? Lantus? - sam

I was referring to this quote from your OP.
I talked to the pharmacist and he told me there was a basal insulin that a diabetic took at bedtime what helped to keep your blood sugar somewhat even.

Beware of problems with Lantus that few are talking about. My sister and I had a severe reaction to Lantus, fast pulse, trouble breathing, very high blood pressure, then when we stopped using it, me after only 1 week, we both had problems with anxiety, which I'm still dealing with now. Pharmasists say it is probably b/c Lantus is so slow acting and it is still being released in my body even though it has been 2 weeks since I stopped.
