my dr. gave me lexapro and im scared to take it but at the same time wanna get it over with but im reading how ppl take both that and xanax and im wondering if i should wait until he gives me a prescription for xanax?????im so confused...i hear ppl say the meds can make your anxiety worse at first...is that true or should i just try to take it without the xanax...im only on 5 mgs anyway????

Take it if you feel you need it. Sometimes the start up affects can be hard. Did he tell you to take it as needed or did he tell you to take it everyday?

he didnt give me xanax AT ALL...all i have is the lexapro which id like to just get started with
soonest i could get a pres. for xanax is monday so i dont know if i should just bite the bullet and taket he lex or wait...but in a way i just wanna get it over with and stop worrying bout taking it
if i had the xanax im not even sure id feel comfy taking that seeing as how hesitant i am with the lex ya know
so i mean if i take the lex without the xanax...ill be ok right...ppl do that?

I understand your hestitation to take meds, I held on to my prescription for Celexa for 3 weeks before I took the first pill. But then the depression and anxiety was just too much, affecting every aspect of my life, and I knew that I couldn't allow that to happen. So I took the first one, and then the next....going on 2 weeks now. The first week was a little hard, sleeping was a nightmare...but now I'm doing better, getting more hours of sleep and even taking naps in the afternoon. I still have a bad day here or there but they say it takes 3-4 weeks for the the meds to take full affect. After 2 weeks, I'm already seeing improvements.
Take the meds, give it a try. It sucks without the meds, might as well see if the meds will help. Really, what do you have to lose?

You can do it. I did it without and Xanax or anything. Just know that it's worth it and it WILL make you feel better.

im just wondering now if maybe i should ONLY take xanax for my anxiety...i wont feel as committed to it...ya know...and i wont be worried bout the weight gain and other side effects
i know xanax has side effects but everyone i know who has been on it...LOVES it so...im not really sure what the best answer is for me...

That's something to talk to your doctor about. He/She may be able to decide what would be better for you. Good Luck!

It's understandable, especially with anxiety. I think everyone had trouble starting their meds.

can i still take aspiren (bayer) and my multivitamins and magnesium with lexapro?????

You can take anything else you need with Lexapro..I just would avoid alcohol.Some people use Xanax,valium or klonopin(benzos) to help adjust to anti-depressants for a week or two.I did not need anything but Lexapro,although I now also take Neurontin as my Psych hates the benzo's.Lexapro is great.
