Good morning, I am trying to find a natural sleep aid. I have a terrible time sleeping and have for a long time.

I am on Cymbalta, Wellbutrin, and 2 high blood pressure meds. I take Xanax for sleep and once in awhile Lorzipam. I am wanting to change from those two last meds, because of the addiction potential. I started with .25, but now it takes .50 to fall asleep, so the tolerance has started.

I have heard Melatonin, Benadryl, is there anything else that I could try. I also deal with restless legs, but do not currently take anything for it. I do not want any more meds that I have to take everyday.

Thanks for listening,
I am tired of not sleeping!

I've been struggling with sleep issues for over 2 years now and have tried many herbal remedies. Valerian root is a good herbal sleep aid. It works better on me than melatonin. Also there is a a combination herbal aid called Herbal Slumber(Melatonin and Valerian)by Natural Balance. With this I fall asleep but I don't stay asleep. Maybe it will work better for you. Also there is something called Sleep Fizz(created by a coach for his athletes). It contains vitamins and antioxidants with Melatonin. I hope this helps!

Hi Dottie,

I take Melatonin and it really works good for me. I also gave it to my mother she has Rum. Arth. and its works great for her. I take 3 mg tabs and if I need more I take another one but 3 mg usually does the trick. I have bulding disc in my neck and do not sleep well at all. When the muscle spams gets really bad I take a valium before bed. Try it, it is over the counter and not very expensive..Good Luck...Denise

In conjuntion with good sleep hygiene.. chamomile tea is another good natural sleep aide.

Melatonin is the best for me! Honestly, I have suffered with insomnia for 4-5 years, have spent hundreds on sleep aids, even 2 new beds. 3 months ago I decided to try melatonin, for some reason I hadn't thought it would work. I was completely wrong, it is awesome I take a 5mg pill that melts in my mouth, works every night so far. Good luck :)
