I just read thru the sticky post by bluepumkin on the Digestive disorder message board and was wondering if anyone here had tried using magnesium? Several posters noted having good results using it. I know it is very important to the body but never really associated it to GERDS.

I tried it and it didn't work for me. What does work for me is zinc. I took it for an entirely different reason and found that it worked for my reflux.

This is just standard part of common antacids. Common antacids are either based on magnesium or aluminum; some now have both. This is not a break-through.

I didn't get the impression from the post that he was using the magnesium as a antacid. It sounded as if his problem was caused form a deficiency of magnesium which makes some sense since he was suffering from spasims.

Alagaesia, I guess we can just add Zinc to the list of possible causes. I think we kind of take minerals for granted and fail to realize how important they really are.

Yeah, reflux problems are different for everyone. At least there are a lot of things to try. I myself have tried a bunch of stuff and finally found a combination that works. For me its one 10 MG zinc tablet after my first 2 meals. After that I take an apple cider vinegar pill, even for snacks. That was working pretty good for me but I recently added chlorella to the mix and the combination of the 3 is working perfectly. I find it best for me to take the chlorella at night on an empty stomach. For some reason it works better than taking it during the day. That stuff gives me sooooo much energy I don't know what to do with it!!

Just a bit of warning concerning chlorella. If you suffer from IBS, Crohn's or frequent diarrhea you need to be carefull using chlorella since it can promote diarrhea in some people. Introduce it very slowly to avoid worsening your condition. If Chlorella interests you there is a very informative free ebook on the subject of Spirulina and Chlorella. It's titled "Superfoods for Optimum Health: Chlorella and Spirulina" by Mike Adams.

I use the vitamin shoppe brand. Its called super chlorella. Its 1000 MG and the bottle says take only one a day. Like the other poster said, if you have major stomach problems you might want to start off with a brand that has a lesser dosage. I've tried other greens as well and I've found they do help with digestive problems. Green tea and alfalfa worked perfectly for digestive problems but they gave me sinus problems so I had to stop taking them. Too bad.
