i posted a little of this topic sometime before but i've just learned some new info two days ago. i am an amputee and have been treated for phantom pain for 27 years. I've taken a ton of Demerol because the electric shocks are so bad. Two days ago i went to a new PM Doc and he stuck a needle in the end of my stump and we learned that i have live nerves there. He says that he can do a radio frequency ablation and kill the nerves. he also said that this procedure has never been done before. Has any one else on this board had this procedure done? I'm a little sceptical on having this done. feed back please!!!

Go to the top of the page, see the little folders? they should go Healthboards.com-Health Issues-Pain Management.
Click on 'Health Issues', then scroll down to the RSD Board, they are alphabetical.

Tucker, I have been hanging around this board for about a year. I have not posted anything until now. I had an ablation done in Jan 07 for my constant neck pain from C5-7 disc herniation and fusion surgery. I was in constant pain for 3 1/2 years. I have been on every medicine known to man I think. I had been on the duragesic patch for almost a year when I had the ablation done. I am now completely off the patch and only use my bt meds every once and a while. I can mainly use ibuprophen and that takes care of it. I had a wonderful experience from the ablation. I know there are some who have not had as good as an experience as I have. My pain doctor said this will last for 6 to 18 months or more maybe. I am not saying that I do not have any pain at all left, but it is very manageable. Good luck with your procedure and let us know how it works out!! Nutti:wave:

I go for mine this comming monday. Im having L5-L1 done. I was told right around six months to expect. Im nervous because the blocks kinda hurt so getting 5 seperate sticks doesnt sound fun. but im hoping for the best... I will reply once its done and let you know what it was like.

The PM Doc said that he would get back to me and i'm still waiting. I don't know what is taking him so long. The Wife wants to take a Vacation and we will be back in two weeks. ( lots of luck with that!! ) then i'm going to be burning up the phone line trying to get this thing going.

Thanks for all the input . as soon as i have anything done i'll post it here, good or bad.

CYA, John
