Hi -- Ive been having problems sleeping for the past few weeks and last night I tried taking Melatonin (3 mgs.). I had the best sleep but still woke up after 5 hours (which is good compared to waking up after an hour and being up all night, which was what I was doing for weeks).

My bottle of Melatonin says 3 mgs. is the max dosage -- but searches on the internet suggests you can take more. I'd like to try a higher dosage tonight in hopes that I sleep all night long but the warning on the bottle is scaring me.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks and thank goodness for melatonin.

I have purchased melatonin in 3mg and 5mg doses. Look for the higher dose, or cut one of the 3mg in half to add to your regular dose. I have also sometimes slept for a couple of hours and gotten up to take a second one then.

You can get time-released melatonin, which is supposed to help with the problem of waking up after a couple of hours.

I take 20 mg at night... according to my naturopathic physician at the cancer center, you should find/take a 20 mg capsule about 30 minutes before bedtime. Don't take a bunch of the 3mg (to make up 20mg) because she says there are too many perservatives and other things in there that you don't need. Go to a cancer center or a good nutrition shop and get you a bottle of 20mg. It not only helps you sleep, it's good for your immune system, too!

Good Luck!
