Hello Everyone. I am a newby. I have HPV. I'm 33 and just had a LEEP procedure on May 17th after a PAP came back high grade dysplasia. I am anxiously awaiting my results:dizzy:
I've been doing tons of research on HPV as many of us have on this site, and keep nerve wreckingly coming across findings that say women who have higher occurrences of dysplasia (CIN III) and CIS , or whose condition has progressed rather rapidly from a low-grade to a high grade, are women who are likely infected with HIV. Is there any truth to this? I was diagnosed with HPV in July of 2006, had a colpo/biopsy in August which came back CIN 1, VIN 1. A week later I had a Rapid HIV test that was NEGATIVE. In November of the same year I had another PAP that came back low/mod dysplasia with a colpo/biopsy of CIN I and VIN II. I was receiving free treatment at the time and after the dr saw that my condition was progressing he politely dumped me as a patient:mad:
Anyway, I scrambled to find a new dr, found one, and in March of 2007 my PAP came back high grade dyplasia with a high grade lesion being found on my cervix after pathology findings. So the drs. at the new clinic wanted me to get another HIV test because there was a concern over how quickly my condition was progressing. Well this freaked me out and to make a long story short, I didn't get the test. I am really frightened. I don't believe i have it, but the fact that this has progressed in just 8 months leaves a question mark in my head. So to get to my question(s) finally:
1). Is there an HIV/HPV correlation?
2). Is it "normal" for dysplasia to progress so quickly?
3). Should I be concerned?
Thank you for letting me go on. Any advise will be much appreciated.
LOVE.

Well....my CIS went from HSIL to CIS in about 6-8 months and I don't have HIV. Nobody (not three GYNs who I saw, nor an GYN/ONC) talked to me about any connection between HPV and HIV. It just didn't come up.
So....I'm a good example of someone with high-risk HPV, whose dysplasia went quickly from minor to major, who does NOT have HIV.
It is not inevitable that you have HIV somply because you have fast-growing dysplasia.
Good luck!

Same for me...no one ever mentioned HIV to me.
I have seen two different gynos and had 2 colposcopies and a leep. No mention of anything along those lines. I actually asked to be tested for another std because my ex husband was cheating on me. That test was negative and no one mentioned having any further tests.

Hi There!
Exactly Same With Me! I Had Cin3 - I Have Seen Several Gyno/ob And Was Never Ever Told Anything In Corealtion To Hiv.
Quick Progress Of It Might Be Related To Poor Immune System.
I Think It Is Worth Checking For Ways On How To Boost Up Your Immune System.
I Wish U A Full Recovery!

My CIN I progressed to CIS in 5 months.
Somebody with HIV has a lowered immune system, and therefore if they have HIV, it's more likely to progress to CIS or cancer. But that does not mean that somebody with CIS is likely to have HIV. HPV and cervical dysplasia are very common. HIV is not very common. At least not in this country.

Speak with your doctor about your concerns. When I was younger my first pap came back abnormal, did the colposcopy and it was fine...Then I went about 3 years and had normal paps and now since I have been with my husband I have had 3 abnormal paps in 3 years. Each time the colposcopy was fine. For each of these times I have seen my reg. gyn, and a specialist and they have never mentioned anything about HIV. Go get the test, you will have peace of mind. I am going this week to get my first HIV test, be strong...I have a friend taking me to mine so I cant change my mind when I get there.
