I've read all the threads of the negative effects of Ambien. I just wanted to throw a thread out there and say that I never experienced any negative effects like what has been described. It has worked for me for the last two weeks with no side effects at all. In fact I went off it for a couple days just to see what would happen and the only thing was I didn't sleep well enough. I was in the hospital for Meningitis and couldn't sleep so that's why I started taking it. I got home and continued to use it to get my sleep pattern down again. I don't like taking drugs of any kind so I am going to stop taking it starting today. I will check back and let you guys know what it is like coming off of this just to give you an update. Again, I took it and it helped me sleep very well in fact (and I am naturally a light sleeper). Take care and good health to you all.

Thanks for posting! I haven't had any bad side effects on Ambien either. I can't say a single bad thing about it.

All the best...

Well I gotta say that I haven't been sleeping well without the Ambien. I broke down two nights ago and took one. This drug works so well for me that I lied awake in bed for 4 hours then got up and took a pill and I tried to sit up to wait for it to work but actually fell asleep sitting up on the couch. So last night I did not take one and stayed awake all night. It is going to be hard to get off this drug for me and I only used it for 2 weeks. I've actually always been a terrible sleeper but I hate taking medication and I'm quitting cold turkey now. I'll keep posting even though people are probably not reading this.

Yeah I have been taking Lunesta for like a month now. It helps me sleep too. I am worried about stopping it. Good luck on stopping the Ambien let me know if it works!

I'm reading it. ;) I know how you feel about not sleeping well when you don't take Ambien. If I lay off it after taking it for a few nights I don't sleep well either. I guess I should say that that is the ONLY thing I don't like about it. But I don't have a choice. I work nights and sleep days so have to have some help. I don't feel GOOD about taking a sleep aid but know that there are times I simply don't have the luxury of not sleeping. I've learned over the last year or so that I can only take it for 2 or 3 nights (in my case, days) in a row or I do start having some side effects. That being the case, I only take it when I absolutely need it or I will become dependent. I hope this helps. And rest assured, your posts are being read!

Ambien caused me to sleep walk, sleep talk and gave me night sweats. Also, if I took too many or accidently took it in the day it would cause a psychotic episode (I have a psychotic disorder).

I quit cold turkey. Caused some sideaffects like shakiness and insomnia, but eventually I landed in my old sleeping pattern without any trouble.

Can I ask how it was prescribed to you? Mine says, "Take one pill 15-30 minutes before going to bed." It also says, "Make sure you have 7-8 continuous hours to contribute to sleep." I would not even attempt to take this pill during the day. I would probably be utterly useless if I did that.

Ok so I've been going two nights without ambien then one night with it. (I couldn't quit cold turkey like I said, I guess I am just weak) So, no sleep on the nights without it and sleeping like a baby when I do take it. But I made another observation about my lack of sleep... Prior to taking any meds, when I went to bed, right before I actually fell asleep, I often got like a feeling that I was actually falling asleep (almost like a falling sensation) and I would jerk awake. I suppose I would do this a few times before I would actually fall asleep. I've also noticed that other people also go through sort of this "jerky period" before actually falling asleep. Mine is not there anymore. I wonder what this means?

i've actually had that myself..and i've also had hallucinations from taking ambien...never taking it again.

you guys might wanna ask your Pdoc if your possible Bipolar (to the ones who say when they stop taking the drug they lay awake all night, sounds pretty manic to me)

I'm taking meds now to try and get my mood stabilized. I'm taking 1500mg of depakote ER to control mania, and 25mg of lamictal to help the depakote and help depression, and now Im on 12.5mg of Ambian CR for sleep and it doesn't even put me to sleep. I take it and about 3-4 hours later its like I took nothing at all, then for about 1-2 hours it feels like I had about 4 shots of hard liquor. Blurred and double vision, staggering, heavy legs, etc. Then it goes away as quick as it came about. Right now I feel like I took nothing at all.

Worthless drug ya ask me. I have not felt like sleeping at all yet. And Ive done yard work plus ran 2 miles today....not even tired. Took the Ambian around 9:45 PM and its now 2:32 AM and I'm wide awake.

Mine was prescribed the same way. Take 30min before bed, get 7-8 hours of sleep, etc. I got my hours of sleep, usually 12. But even when taking it an half-hour before bed I layed awake for hours.

Taking it in the morning was definitely an accident. A couple of accidents. I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone, even if you are trying to sleep during the day one day.

To everyone: follow the directions and dosages prescribed to you, with all sleep aids (especially Ambien).
