Rectal bleeding here for ten years..Finally when in, found to have fissure and had sphincterotomy..Prior to this had only barium enema. I am still bleeding-what is protocol? Doe normal people have sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy? Why won't my drs allow these tests?? I am 34 but still??? I am very upset about this and wonder what normal people get done to investigate. Thanks!

I would think you need a colonoscopy.

Have you always had the same doctors? Maybe it is time to change doctors. A colonoscopy is the only thing that is going to see what is really going on. What have your doctors said when you asked about it? What is their reason for not doing one?
Sounds like it is time to sit down and talk with your doctors about your concerns----if you don't feel comfortable doing that then that is your clue that it is time to change doctors.

Hi
My own experience in the UK.... Bleeding for 16 months now, had Colonoscopy last year for suspected Barrats cuased by strong stomach acids prescribed Omneprozle... Bleeding not too bad through Autumn/Winter 06 then gradual worsening this year and had Sigmoidoscopy last week. Nothing definate found... still bleeding worse than ever now, just seen GP and insisted on seeing specialist doctor rather than the Registra's ... GP says he has two other patients who are bleeding and cause can't be found... Oh, and told to increase Iron tablets to compensate....

Yeah I have switched drs, but all in the same health care system..Even saw a gastro-he performed the barium enema, small bowel follow, gastric empty, ulstrasound, and endoscopy with bravo capsule. But none of those I believe would address the bleeding..but my colo rectal used anoscope. I just don't know-my blood counts are fine. I'm switching clinics here soon and maybe I will ask their opinion! Thansk though.
