 Hello everyone! I was Dx in April of 07 with a BG of over 1000 and a A1C of 19. Spent several days in the ICU and then in a reg room in the Hosp. Am now going to classes thru the Hosp.Needless to say am terrified of it all. Trying to figure out the diet thing and exercise plan has been interesting. I am on Levemir 95 units a day and Novolog before meals. I go see the Endo. Doc. on June first and am scared to death to hear what he has to say..Emotions all over the place right now...some count good and bad days .... I count good and bad hours in a day! I am also on Diovan 80 mg. and HCTZ plus several other things...I am spending my days searching the web and reading everything I can at this point. I have been on the ADA site alot and have read several posts hear against that site...was kinda shocked, I personally, for me think they have alot of good advise there...But like I said I am new to this..Just surfing everywhere to get info on this:dizzy: I am blessed with a wonderful Dr. who is really on top of all this for me, he said I should have been either in a coma or 6 ft under with my numbers....BG are getting better Low 200's or high to mid 100's (which is good from where i was 3 weeks ago for me) anyway glad to have found you all and will be reading posts probably daily...till next time...Later...STRIKER_Out:wave:

HI
Wow, I was at 561 and thought that was bad. Did it effect your eyes? I'm still trying to get my vision to cooperate with me. everything is blurry at a distance. I'm also on prednisone for another disease. This raises my BG real high at nice. To high for the meter to read. Have had any reaction from your sugar being to low? I woke up this morning with very achy legs and shaky and didn't realize it wasn't my PMR but probably low sugar. I'm really new to this stuff. I don't know anything, and what to expect. Please any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Striker, and welcome.
It sounds like you are doing fairly well under the circumstances. You will probably feel weird and not so hot for a while until your body gets used to more normal blood sugar.
Wow, your numbers were really high. Did they bother to test you for type 1? The numbers that you had were more typical for a T1. But anyway, best of luck, keep us posted, and ask any questions you like.
Btw, I think that part of the reason many people don't like the ADA site is that is pushes a one-size-fits-all prescription that doesn't work for everyone. Also, they are slower to adopt new practices, so you will only be getting older more "established" information there. In other reputable places, and from your own doctor, you will get lots more cutting edge stuff.
Take care.

I was handed the ADA diet recommendations when I was diagnosed and realized that it has too many carbs on it. I think they are beginning to change their thinking. I got a copy of Dr Berstein's Diabetes Solution and have had very good control over my blood sugar since using diet and exercise.
