View Full Version : Does anyone know what causes scar tissue?

I figured I would post this here, in addition to the knee section, because some of you here know about neuromas.

I'm going in for a Tibial Tubercle Oesteotomy on Wednesday. Pretty much what I have been explained is the tendon in my knee is not lined up as it should be. It is slanted. He has to cut my tendon, put it where it should be, and then screwing it into place. Does cutting the tendon cause scar tissue?

The reason I'm asking this is because I have had neuromas in my feet. I have had four foot operations, cutting the nerves in my feet to remove the neuroma, one operation cutting from the top and the other cutting the bottom when it grew back. It was done to each foot. My feet are having a very hard time of breaking up the scar tissue left over from the surgery. Because of this the pain in my feet won't go away.

I'm wondering will this knee surgery cause scar tissue. If so I'm wondering if I will have the same problem. That the scar tissue won't break up as it should and I will always have pain. This could be very different from the foot surgeries because I'm not talking about the nerves here. But I'm not sure. Does anyone have an idea on this?

Any sugrery will cause scar tissue to form PERIOD.
This can be to a lesser or more degree.
However, it will form.
But, just because it formed once to a greater degree doesn't mean that it will be a problem in the future.
What I am trying to say is that one just doesn't know what will happen.

In cases like you are talking about, the scar tissue forms from lack of use. I was told very emphatically when I had my cheilectomy to exercise the joint or scar tissue would buildup and I would lose movement of the toe and be in a great deal of pain. I would imagine that the knee surgey will have rehab associated with it. Be sure to do it.
