my child is almost 2 1/2 and since birth he seemed to have problems with his nose seemed like he was snorting all the time and now he snores so loud when he sleeps. he snorts during the day and breathes through his mouth all the time to the point his lips crack and bleed and hes thirsty all the time drinks his 8 oz cup in a few seconds. when he gets sick his nose runs so bad and he has thick discharge and gets a cough everytime he is sick. i even gave him cough medicine and it isnt even touching it. anyway, the ENT put him on a steroid and said it would make him "hyper" which it never did he was still falling asleep sitting up and he gets lots of sleep and naps, and she wanted to see him back and we are waiting to see her now for a month. she wants him to see an audiologist first though he just saw one less then a year ago. he falls asleep sitting up and standing sometimes. he will sleep with food crumbled in his mouth cause he cant keep himself awake and it's hard waking him. the pedi thinks it may be narcolepsy and i hope the ENT can help us already cause he is suffering it seems and they are in no hurry for a return visit.

Look at my posts on sleep apnea in children.. they litter the childrens health, parenting issues, and ADD boards. It is a serious concern and I would take you child immediately to a ABSM sleep specialist that deals with children.. My son is four and has had sleep apnea since birth. Since his diagnosis, the T&A by an ENT and getting on a CPAP he now sleeps well and night long and has improved in behavior and health tremendously.

Children's Health > Snoring and other sleep apnea signs in kids

I would go here too and see what others in your situation have found.

Sincerely,
MG

American Board of Sleep Medicine Certified. The MD will have ABSM in conjuction with the MD status.

Where.. look to the children's hospital and diagnostic centers in your area. The should have or be able to recommend a certified sleep specialist.

Sincerely,
MG
