Do any of you have problems with the lighting in super markets and things? I find it makes me feel so much worse! I even sometimes start having pains in my head from it.Maybe it stresses my eyes too much.

I have the exact same problem with lights, sounds, quick movements...I almost get parnoid when someone walks by me, like it startles me or something even though I know they are coming or there. It seems like I cannot handle any stress at all. Stores really bother me, it's almost like someone is holding my head in one straight position and every little movement or anything makes me jump or feel like I am off balance.
I have never been to see and ENT, neurologist or had an MRI done. 1 1/2 years ago I had a catscan that said I had mild chronic sinus fascitus (sp), but I was never given anything and have only been on Amoxicillin before.
They have only diagnosed me with anxiety and depression, prescribed about 13 meds since 2003 with little to no help and most made me feel worse than before. I have a very hard time even talking to people anymore, as I feel kinda floaty, nevous, off balance and I feel like I look or am acting funny to them. It's almost as if my eyes feel crossed while being wide open.
Any of this sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions on what tests to have or what I can do about it? Thoughts and comments really appreciated. I really feel for everyone going through something like this in their lives.

Maria,
This does get better with time. I am now at the 2 1/2 mark and it has almost become normal in stores for me despite my other symptoms. Here is a link in which I replied to Dizzyandsad with some VOR exercises:
You can look up cawthorne-cooksey exercises. They list VOR exercises for vestibular injuries.
Hope that helps.......Gloria:)

Maria,
I also have problems with fluorescent lights but only that type of light, not with sun light or light from regular light bulbs. The problem with the florescent lights is because of they are not a continuous source - they generate their light from flickering (at high speeds). Most peoples brains can ignore the flickering and turn the image into a constant light, but people with vestibular dysfunction can't so well.
Since I realized this, and after reading about this phenomenon in web sites, I took the following precautions: I changed the lightning in my office from fluorescent to regular light bulbs, and I began to wear dark sunglasses in fluorescent lit places. This has made a tremendous change. I was not getting that reaction of feel dizzier!
I eventually got myself a pair of glasses custom made that filter out the florescent light, but are not totally dark, so people can see my eyes when they speak to me. Most people think that they are just tinted prescription glasses, and I don’t have to explain. I wear them everywhere, at work, in the supermarket, mall, school etc.
By the way, I feel better outdoors then indoors, and whenever I can, I prefer to be outdoors. I still do not feel good in crowded places, especially department stores, even while wearing the dark glasses, so there seems to be another factor there (over-vision stimulation).
Hope my experience can help you with this issue:)

I use o suffer something terrible with this in the shopping mall a few stores in particular were worse than others, although I looked a bit shady I wore sun glasses whilst shopping and that helped (the funny looks I got were amusing as well)
Last night I went to the mall and spent 2 hours shopping with my eldest daughter, no sunglasses and very few "off" moments so maybe at last I'm getting there, this was something that would send me into a frezy before Christmas!

What link?
Maria...here is a good one for vor...
Hold a letter (draw a 1 inch letter on a note card) at arms length. Feet shoulder length apart. Move letter one way, head the other way. start off slowly...try for 1 min 3times a day.
Then try to get head moving faster...working up to march tempo (120 metronome marks). Work up to 2 mins 3 times a day. Focus the sweet spot of your eye on the letter.
Once you have mastered that...try walking doing the same thing.
