When I searched the internet, I found that there was really no information about the correlation between pap results and actual diagnosis. I know this isn't scientific, but if people could just post their pap results vs. their diagnosis, I think it owuld help others (me included) to get a better idea of what the pap might mean. Thanks!

Hi Kim
This is kind of a sore point with me because i cant seem to figure it out either. After 20 years of normal paps i got my first abnormal last June (06). I had a colposcopy in July which showed CINIII (severe dysplasia). I had a Leep in Sept which came back with CINI (MILD) with clear margins. THEN in Jan. (07) i had my first follow up Pap post LEEP and that showed CINII, followed by colposcopy with showed pre-dyplasia...NOT even dysplasia. Now im due to go for another pap the end of June. God only knows what will show up this time. Its very frustrating. I actually sought a second opinion and that is the dr that did the second colpo and she cant make any sense of it either.

Take care

Hi,

I read somewhere that Pap results are usually milder than the actual dysplasia. In my case this is true, but I've also seen others who had bad Paps and no dysplasia at all.

My experience has been as follows:

May and August 2005: Pap = ACS-US, Biospy = moderate/severe dysplasia (VAIN 2/3) No treatment at that time.

May 2006: Pap = ACS-US, Colposcopy did not show any areas to biopsy.

December 2006: Pap = LSIL, Biopsy = severe dysplasia/carcinoma in situ (VAIN 3/CIS) Laser surgery May 9, 2007.

You must remember, Pap tests are just swabbing cells from the cervix. You're not getting a deep sample of tissue as you do with a biopsy. This is why a lot of times the Pap results do not correspond with biopsy results. Also, with Pap tests, the area sampled may not be the area where the dysplasia or cancer is located. It's kind of just the luck of the draw, I guess. Sad that it has to be that way, but it's not an exact science.

Hugs,

(Another) Lisa

Ok.... I had a pap in April of '06 that showed LSIL

Another pap in October of '06 that showed HSIL and a poistive HPV test at that time.

Colposcopy after the October pap showed CIS. Leep in early November with unclear margins.

CKC in early December '06 with clear margins.

Follow-up pap in March '07--NORMAL.

Now just crossing my fingers for more normal ones... :dizzy:
