Since I lost almost 30 pounds, I have been trying to run a couple of times a week. The problem is, I am only running 1-2 miles at a time. Is that enough to get me started? I do not want to become "a runner." I just want to be able to do it as an option when I work out. I want to be able to vary between aerobics, stepper, walking, etc.
Should I be trying for more mileage? I just started last Saturday (2 mi) and then I ran another mile on Tues.

A mile or two are great runs! They are long enough to get your heart pumping for awhile and they will help you to train yourself for longer distances.
You say you don't want to be "a runner" but you will eventually get sick of just a mile or two, at which point I recommend a bit more http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
Stick with about two miles as a good run. You'll have fun and get fit http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I agree, a mile or two are good runs! I started off only being able to run 5 minutes and eventaully worked my way up to 30 minutes. But I still have my days when my body just doesn't want to work with me and I only run 10 minutes. But it's all good. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
Since you don't want to be a 'runner', just focus on running for 20 minutes (or more if you can). It's a good start.
Congrats on the weightloss so far!
