View Full Version : Videonystagmography Test

YIKES. Just this morning I had a Videonystagmography test to better pinpoint my inner ear turmoil and it was quite spooky. I'm sure plenty others have had this done but I just had to share.

The first part wasn't so bad - the goggles came on and then I had to take some tests looking at a computer screen (follow the arrow, count the lines, etc.). Then the chair spinning was a little more icky because you sit and spin your chair while the doc looks at your pupils. BUT, the WORST part was when he blew cold and warm air into my ears, one at a time for about a minute each, and actually created a SUPER dizzy, spinning sensation. He would then make me look up (wearing the goggles) and I guess watch my eyes go wacky. All's I can say is.....UGGGGGG

I'm still recovering...I was at about 90% when I went in, and now I'm closer to 75% dang it...

M

Ah yes, that test can be really tough. Back when I had VN the first time (Oct/Nov 2005) I had that it done and it showed a vestibular deficit on my left side. Strangely, now I have something akin to BPPV in my *right* ear...go figure! Anyway, be glad it's over and they'll now be able to pinpoint your problem area. Should really help with your treatment/recovery!

It's horrible

And even as it's not a written rule, as strange as it feels, most of the time the ear where you didn't get too dizzy, or al least less dizzy than the other, is usually your "bad side".

It is definitely horrible and I can't shake it. How long did you take you to recover from the test? I feel totally nauseated and get sporatic little spins now and then - and of course my head aches. I hope it's gone by tomorrow and the effects don't last much longer than that!

But as stated, it's over now and at least I can hopefully have a diagnosis instead of just my guessing. Thanks!

For me, fotunately it only lasted some minutes after the test, no more.

I was off for a couple of weeks and vomitted several times for the first few days after, whatever I would NOT do those tests again!!!!!!
