does anyone know what they mean by 'Basal'?

in reference to the calorie expenditure page? its how many calories you would burn in a given day without any exercise.

IMO its way off base. According to fitday, i would be burning around 4700cals/day. The rest of the tools there are nice though.

John, thats what i thought! So if I dont count that, but just sum up my 'lifestyle' and 'activities' would that be my calories burned throughout the day? thanks!!

it *might* work out that way - i dont know.
The best way really is to just keep track of your calories, and pay attention to the scale. If your loosing or gaining weight, adjust accordingly. Over a period of time, you should be able to figure out your daily requirement. A decent starting point is your bodyweight x 15 =calories/day.
