When it comes to Serc and antihistimes, how is it that they work? Do they help to reduce inner ear fluid? I don't take antihistimines because i don't have allergy symptoms that often. I am allergic to cats but I have been on allergy shots for months for that.
As for Serc, I tried that for a few days and it helped with the dizziness, but the pressure in my head and anxiety was still there. What does Serc do for the inner ear fluid? Does it gradually help alleviate all symptoms if taken long enough? I didn't continue on with it because i didn't know if taking it was the right decision.

What i've been told as well some others on the boards, that dizzy meds hinder your compensation for recovery. My docs said for the first initial few weeks is okay, but after that it will slow down the process of recovery. The drugs fuzzes your brain. Your brain needs to have indication of dizziness for it to compensate for that. I am going on my 15 month, never took anything and im at 99% almost everyday. I can do everything that ive done before, and ENJOY it. Ill get ocassional blips here and there, but they are alot less now. If I were you, i know its hard, but let your body do its own healing.

Good luck

Found this on the net:
The reasons for the above can be down to patients taking vestibular suppressants (medication) which prevent the brain from re-learning what it should or it could be due to patients avoiding movement or certain head positions. As mentioned in the 'diagnosis' section, there are many GP’s out there who very readily give out such drugs because they do not have the knowledge that these can in fact hinder the compensation process. All the GP’s we saw offered us them and mentioned nothing about VRT.

I too have the inner ear fullness (fluid, or inflammation or whatever the heck it is) and it won't go away (yet). The dizziness has subsided (excluding yesterday when I had the Videonystagmography test - ick) and so have most of the other symptoms but my ears are as "full" as ever and it scares me that the icks might return because the ears haven't "healed". :(

Missy i also HAD the ear fullness too. Give it time, for some it is one of the last things to go away. You will recover and be okay. I also had tests done to my inner ear and I was dizzy and off balance for a few days afterwards, but if gets better. By the way, i used to live in Torrance and RPV and absolutely loved it! Then I moved down to the OC, def different from the redondo, hermosa seen.

You'll get better!

THANKS Jax - really, ever bit of encouraging and good news is welcome. I have been feeling pretty darn good for about a week so I hope it continues. It helps to know that your ear fullness was the last to go - hope I'm the same way.

We're neighbors!! :) I love Orange County too. I am a native Torrancian. In fact, we were just down at Hermosa Beach today - around 12th street. Rode our bikes and had a nice lunch at a little Mexican Cafe on the strand.

I felt a little woozy after the bike ride - I guess the motion rocked the boat, but I know it's good for me. I also ended up putting my jacket over my ears when we were out on the beach because I was terrified that the wind in my ears would cause dizziness. It's so weird how this illness makes you think about things. But really, I got to thinking about it, and that horrid VNG test does the same thing - blows air into the ear drum, so I didn't want to chance the beach wind doing the same thing.

Thanks again for your words of encouragement. I go back to work tomorrow after being out ill for 2 weeks. Kinda nervous but I'm gonna do it.

Hey Missy dont be nervous, everything will be just fine. When I cycle or mt bike, i wear ear plugs because of the wind. I try to protect my ears as much as possible. I loved riding on the strand! I just moved to Colorado and love it, but we'll see how i feel when the first winter hits. Tee-Hee!!

Patience is what we all need for this illness!

Wow - my best friend (also native Torrancian) just moved to Colorado last year and loves it (although last winter was one of the coldest on record). Hope you too enjoy it - it sounds wonderful!

What type of earplugs do you use when biking. I am definitely going to do that and even at soccer tournaments when the wind always seems to be howling (one of my daughters plays on club soccer and we are ALWAYS traveling to places afar). Do you just use the regular earplugs that we use at bedtime to decrease noise or are there some specialized ones? There should be specialized ones to rid the wind but not necessarily the noise (I want to be able to hear people talking). ???

Hi Missy, the ones i use are the regular ear phone plugs for my ipod that you would use to listen to music. They have rubber at the end so you can stick them in your ears. I just cut the wire off of them. I havent tried the blue ear plugs that you can buy at SaveOn or Longs. You might not be able to hear anything with those in your ears, but you can try. I need to hear cars and when other riders are approaching me when i ride. They work well!!!

You will feel better...every month you will see an improvement....it just takes time. Any everyday at work will get better.

Great idea, thanks Jax! I will do that too because you are right, I need to hear things too and with the sleeping earplugs nowadays you can't hear anything (except for your heartbeat)! ;)

It works wonders! Went for a road ride today and it was a little windy here in Denver, wore my plugs and no wind in the ears.
