Appreciate any feed back from those who used to use Ambien and switched to Zolpidem.

This is my first week using the generic (zolpidem), i used to take ambien.
Not 100% sure but i think zolpidem is not as good as ambien.

Your thought is appreciated...

Zolpidem is the same as Ambien...just the generic name. I have used the generic (Zolpidem) as well as the name brand and they are just alike. The CR is only a little different because it has that controlled release but other than that. Ambien is so freakin expensive, expecially w/out insurance so if you can get the generics then by all means get those!!!

I just started using the generic too and don't find it works as well for me. I used to be able to break my 10mg Ambien in half and it'd knock me out. I have to take the whole Zolpidem and then wait much longer to sleep.

Oh, wow, I"m glad to find this thread.....My insurance changed me from Ambien to the generic and it the generic totally does not work for me. I take and am up all night!!! I thought I was going crazy because everywhere I hear that ambien is the same as the generic, but I KNOW that it isn't. I found one ambien in my purse (after had had about 3 weeks of no sleep with the generic), took it and slept for 7 hours straight, so I KNOW the ambien works still......man, what do we do? My insurance won't pay for the real thing any longer!!!

Ambien IS zolpidem! It's the same thing! The only thing that differs between the generic and the name brand is the inactive ingredients. The inactive ingredients of ANY drug don't have any bearing on its effectiveness.

The problem you are having is most likely a psychological one where you have convinced yourself that somehow the generic isn't good enough, and therefore it isn't working. But if you would have started out taking it realizing and knowing and believing that it's the same stuff, just not the flashy name brand that costs more, then you would have had no problems. It's very much a mind over matter issue, and we often talk ourselves into things when they aren't necessarily true. But if you believe it's true, then that's what is going to happen. Yet if you believed it would work as well as the name brand, then that is what would have happened instead. You kind of screwed yourself by having this attitude that it wasn't going to work in the first place. You have to get that thought out of your head and tell yourself that it will work.

Look, I know what I'm talking about, I know Ambien very well as I used to have a professional tie with the company that invented it. Generics are the same exact thing as the name brands with the exception of the inactive ingredients. That is a fact.

I didn't go into it with that negative attitude. I went into it with a postive attitude of "this is the same stuff" but it isn't working. I don't know what is causing the problem.....but something is...maybe the inactive stuff is needed.....I don't know....I can only share my experience....

I just talked to my doctor's office about the generic and they said that the generic puts a lot of "fillers" in theirs and it wasn't the same thing....and it might not work the same........I'm trying to get my insurance to pay for the ambien again....the generic makes me sleepy and hallucinate but does not let me go on into sleep...at all

The generic ambien works just as well if not better for me! I am so glad... the generic is $10 a month and the brand name is $40 a month.
