Recently I've had a lot of health problems and I've been on about 12 different prescriptions. About 10 days ago I had a bad reaction to the meds, blacked out a few times, and hit the floor. At the ER they told me I sprained both knees and both ankles.
Anyway, today I noticed what looks like a vein popping out on my right shin. It's thin and purple - like somebody scribbled on me with a bic pen. There is also a definate bump there. I've also been getting some really bad muscle cramps in that leg, but they go away quickly.
I know this sounds like a varicose vein, but I'm only 21. I'm kind of worried because my Dad and several uncles have had blood clots in their legs which lead to heart attacks. Should I be worried about this? Do I need to have it checked ASAP? I'll be going back to the doc soon but probably not for another 10 days or so.

Yes, get it checked out. It sounds like it may be a superficial clot, not too serious, but you may need to go on medications if you are getting these. Esp. as it runs in the family. Cheers, Sera

Do you think it's urgent though? I'll definately have it checked...but I hate to make another appointment just for this. I've already been to the doctor like 12 times this month.:dizzy: I tend to be kind of a hypochondriac, I feel so silly when I end up there over nothing...

If it is in a surface vein, it can't really go anywhere. Take baby aspirin each morning as an anticoagulant. It may go away.
